Do you remember the time when Everton beat us and every single one of our rivals won? Yeah that wasn’t much fun at all. Well ladies and gentlemen, this looks like the first time since then where we can actually make up the gap on some of the folk around us.
On Sunday, I hope Everton can play with the same intensity as they did against us that awful night, especially in the 2nd half. Manchester United vs Liverpool will hopefully be a feisty encounter where at least one of the teams will drop some much needed pointage.
Leicester City unfortunately are poo so I don’t expect them to add to the Diego Costa misery, although it would be nice. Be great to see a little pressure applied to them to see how they handle it. They have had a settled team, have ground out a lot of wins but haven't looked anything special to me. Let us see what they are made of with a few absentees and controversy around the camp.
Oh and lastly, hopefully Pulis and West Brom can finally last the full 93 minutes when it comes to boring the opposition into submission. They have failed late against both us and Chelsea in the final minutes so maybe today is third time lucky.
I was about to say our record at Swansea was pretty bad but I forgot about the 3-0 victory at their place last season.
Watching the highlights again, it was by no means a walk in the park until Giroud scored his goal. So many of these games are about keeping switched on defensively, cutting down mistakes to a minimum and waiting for a moment of quality from one of your players. Loved that moment from Bellerin when he zoomed back to make that last gasp tackle on Gomis, amazing stuff. Bellerin looks like he should be taking part in the Grand National 2017 rather than playing right back for Arsenal.
We have not managed to do that in recent weeks and I think we need to work on keeping the opposition out a little more because with the talent we have, we can score goals. Starting the match in the second half only probably isn’t helping us. Might be worth sorting that out today lads eh?
Arsene’s got a decision to make in his front line today hasn’t he?
Alexis is back baby, Mesut Ozil has blown out all the yellow stuff from his insides while Iwobi, Lucas and Giroud have all been impacting the team positively over the last two games at least.
Who is Arsene going to drop? Alex Iwobi was one of our better players at Preston, including a poor first half from the team. He looks like he is on the way up again, does Arsene put the breaks on that rise? Lucas Perez has given us some massive contributions in the box in the last two games. Without him we may have lost both matches. And what of Giroud? It’s a funny one for me. I share the opinion that we are a more fluid and creative team with Alexis playing as our centre forward, Giroud is a great option from the bench etc. But he is fresher than most in the squad and is banging in goals for fun.
So it is probably a case of Alexis one side and a choice between Iwobi and Lucas. Maybe, possibly.
Mean Lean’s Predicted Line Up:
I'm interested to see how the midfield duo of Ramsey and Xhaka perform with the likes of Alexis and Ozil around them. Looks very offensive and creative to me and in the right games that combination could create and score plenty. Defensively it might not be quite so strong without Coquelin though.
I hope Mesut is nice and refreshed without playing for a few weeks, hopefully Alexis has bought some new gloves and is in a more joyful mood, I guess that will depend on the result and performance of the team. So here is hoping we can click ourselves into gear once more and get back to our best football. The idea that Chelsea have already won the league is a weird one to me, especially when we witness first hand how quickly things can change.
Long way to go ladies and gents, plenty more twists and turns to come for everyone so let us hope that one of the twists will be a convincing Arsenal win this afternoon.
