The Highbury Library animted promo v5 350x350

 Cech
Bellerin Mustafi Sokratis Kolasinac
Elneny Ramsey Guendouzi
Özil Aubameyang Mkhitaryan

Are we beginning to get an idea of how Emery wants our team to look? With the season only a few weeks away, you would imagine that the coach will want to start building partnerships and understanding.

It's the second game in a row where Lacazette has not started as centre-forward, Aubameyang will be tasked with that responsibility. Mesut Özil and Henrik Mkhitaryan will start on the flanks.

So it is either a 4-2-3-1 with Ramsey has the "10" or a 4-3-3, either way, it looks like Mesut will be playing from the flank, at least today.

Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are not in the squad tonight as they have not been in training long enough unfortunately, but you can see how those two can slot into this team. That said, this is a great opportunity for youngster Mattéo Guendouzi to push himself into contention to start the season. He has been really impressive considering the fact he has come from Ligue 2. A good showing this evening with others in the same position lacking in match sharpness, you never know he could start the season, but he will have to do well against a Chelsea side who, like us, are in the process of trying to reinvent themselves under a new manager.

1 min

What on earth? Emile Smith-Rowe is starting, something must have happened to Aaron Ramsey in the warm up. Nothing serious I hope. Still quite interesting that Smith-Rowe is next in line when you have the likes of Iwobi in the squad.

4 mins

Cesc Fabregas has just had a shot saved. He could never shoot! (apart from against Tottenham)

4:40 mins

From the resulting corner, Rudiger has scored a header past Cech. He seemed to be unmarked as he jumped.

7 mins

Cech came miles out of his goal to head a long ball away. We've not looked very secure at the back early on. Long passes seem to be our undoing. Sound familiar? Yeah I thought as much.

8 mins

Nice move down the left involving Guendouzi but we couldn't get our shot away. We look pretty inventive and sharp around the box just not as sharp at the other end.

12 mins

This Hudson-Odoi chap is giving us all sorts of problems down our right side.

13 mins

Yup! It was his quick feet that forced Bellerin to bring him down in the box. Penalty chavs. But Cech saves Morata's tame penalty kick.

15 mins

Morata has a header blocked after a good Chelsea move. They have been the better side so far. Urggh! Was hoping we'd look a little more solid defensively and we're not particularly pressing with any real intensity.

21 mins

We've had a bit of possession but Chelsea have kinda kept us at arms length.

23 mins

Morata again! He should have scored. Jesus Arsenal, we are letting them carve us apart far too easily.

27 mins

Smith-Rowe hit a half volley over the bar following an Özil ball into the box. I don't think we've had a shot on target yet.

30 mins

Slowly getting into this game. Özil with a nice turn and ball into Auba, a cross into the box was cleared away.

31 mins

Morata is poo! Chelsea paid big bucks for him too. I'm fully aware he will probably score now.

31:48 mins

Another Arsenal attack sees Mkhitaryan cross the ball along the floor to the back post, Aubameyang cannot quite turn it into the net. Could have been 1-1.

33 mins

Bellerin needs some help down that side, Hudson-Odoi is causing us some real issues with his speed and footwork.

34 mins

Guendouzi has a shot wide from outside the box, couldn't quite connect with it properly. It hasn't been a very good performance so far but this young chap is not looking out of place at all.

37 mins

Good work down the left sees Kolasinac have a cut back cleared from inside the box. Smith-Rowe with a lovely little back-heal to set him up.

Mesut Özil seems to have switched to the left, at least for the time being. I was watching a compilation of him recently and so many of his assists come from the left. You'd think it would be coming in from the right on his stronger foot but he loves the cut back from the left byline.

41 mins

That Hudson-Odoi dude missed a great chance after running through on goal. Cech saved and then cleared off the line by Sokratis. We could have conceded 3 or 4 quite easily

42 mins

Great chance for Arsenal, their keeper flapped at a cross but we couldn't turn it in. Not quite sure why Kolasinac decided to shift to the left rather than come inside where he had more space.

43 mins

Smith-Rowe should have pulled the trigger outside of the box, he is fully capable but decided to pass instead.

Think we've got goals in us here, the issue is the other end of the pitch.

45 mins

HALF TIME

57 mins

Why is Smith-Rowe being tasked with marking Rudiger again? He lost him for the goal and is marking him once again. Seems a bit of a mismatch to me.

66 mins

Iwobi has come on for Smith-Rowe a little earlier and he is getting himself involved in the game.

67 mins

There is an American woman on co-commentary on my stream and I swear she sounds like one of those text to speech voices. Oh crap, Kolasinac has hurt his knee and has to go off. Maitland-Niles looks to be coming on in his place.

70 mins

Delightful touch from Özil into Aubameyang but his shot was blocked, unfortunately.

71 mins

Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang come off for Nelson and Lacazette.

90 mins

My second half stream has been awful so I have missed a lot of the game during the 2nd period. From the little I've seen, Lacazette has made a difference to the game and not just because of his last minute equaliser.

I thought it was extra time for some reason, it's in fact pens.

Drinkwater is up first and rams it into Cech and into the net.

Lacazette up first for the Gunners. I'm guessing bottom right. And bottom right he goes and scores!

Tammy Abraham next.. and he scores to Cech's right.

Next for Arsenal, Reiss Nelson. Firm and low to his left and he scores. Well done son.

We have improved from our last penalty shoot-out.

Moses next, and calmly rolls it into the net past Cech who went the wrong way. Nicely done.

Ooh It's Guendouzi, and he tucks it away with little fuss. He's a calm lad that fellow ain't he?

Not sure who this dude is but he scores anyway. Blasts it down the middle and Cech dives out of the way.

AMN.. no chips this time I hope young man. I'm going bottom left. My word, he is good from the spot. Chips it top left like he's making some early morning toast **puzzled expression**

Another Chelsea dude who I don't know and another player scores. Ok this is getting boring now.

Mesut Özil calmly scores to his left, very good pen in fact, right in the corner.

Come on Cech! Loftus-Cheek steps up and Cech saves!! Whoo hoo! I had a feeling Petr would come up trumps here.

Alex Iwobi from the spot.. not the cleanest striker of a ball I've ever seen.. but he sends the keeper the wrong way and Arsenal win. Decent pen in fairness. Well done Alex!

This basically means that Chelsea are getting relegated and Arsenal are winning the title. That's obvious.

In all seriousness though there will be a few questions about the display with the season not too far away now. Looks like we will have to 'continue our work' on the training pitch, get our first choice midfielders back and hopefully look better in that regard. That said I thought Guendouzi was once again our best player. What the hell man? Coming in from some weak lower level and making it all look so easy.

So let me stop reminiscing of days gone by and let me focus on our Welsh wonder. Let me start off by saying that I think it is quite obvious that Aaron Ramsey is better in central midfield. His partnership with Mesut Özil, his running from deep and his underrated ball winning ability makes him a ...Read more
