It is a difficult one as Eboue has played well this season and has big game experience but Eboue at left full back will unbalance the side both defensively and offensively. Our full backs are a big part in the way we play
Good Friday to you, how are you feeling today? Excited? yup, I thought as much. Standard Liege is now a distant memory, a game that will rarely be spoken about again such is the speed of life in football, only one match matters, only one game is on the mind of every Gooner and Chavski supporter. I will write my thoughts on the game on Saturday but if you want to know how to beat Chelsea then have a look at Ole Gunner’s article here.
The spine of the team will be vital when it comes to stopping Chelsea and two of our spine members have been on ATVO talking about the up and coming clash. Both players are talking up the team and not individuals, both players mentioned that we have to work as a team and that is very true. Chelsea will be difficult to stop but if we can defend as a team and attack as a unit then we should have a good chance.
With Kieran Gibbs out with a broken foot much has been made of his likely replacement. I assumed that the experienced Mikel Silvestre would be the likely choice but Wenger has effectively ruled him out stating that he hasn’t played in that position for some time.
Wenger said:
“We basically have two options; Traore or Eboue…but I will not let you know yet because with three days to go why should I make a decision now.”
It is a difficult one as Eboue has played well this season and has big game experience but Eboue at left full back will unbalance the side both defensively and offensively. Our full backs are a big part in the way we play, especially at home. I would rather risk Traore with at least Denilson giving him protection from midfield when needed.
Moving away from the game for a moment and onto the Mancs. I read an article somewhere about Manchester United lacking strength in depth as shown by their home defeat in the Champions League. It is amazing how quickly perceptions change. Last season with an extra two players, albeit good players, they had a never ending super squad that Arsenal could only dream of. Now they are weak.
Manchester United haven’t been at their best so far, they haven’t clicked so that makes them dangerous because they are still up there fighting for the league along with us and Chelsea. An Arsenal defeat on Sunday does not rule us out of the league, we have far too many points to play for the title to be handed to anyone in November. Chelsea have many tricky places to visit from now until the end of the season even if they do manage to beat us. Old Trafford, Anfield and the City of Manchester to name but a few so we have some way to go.
Back tomorrow with pre match talk, well more pre match talk.
