Chelsea yesterday but even worse will be supporting Stoke City for me. Yes even more than Chelsea. If Tottenham fail to win that one on the weekend then we can afford a draw and a victory which really should be possible. Double fault Tottenham, advantage Arsenal.

I tell you what? It was a weird feeling watching a game that did not involve Arsenal yet feel so nervous. Yesterday evening at 2-2 in the dying moments I bet you were also trembling just a tad when Gareth Bale had the chance to do what he has done in the whole of this second half of the season and snatch a late winner for Tottenham. His free kick was in a perfect position and that stupid heart celebration was flashing in my head before he strode back Ronaldo style. Luckily his shot floated straight into the hands of Petr Cech.

I expected more fight from Tottenham to be honest, considering that this was such an important game for them, I expected them to be snapping into tackles and playing with real determination but it didn’t appear that way. The draw was the perfect result for us because it leaves the top four spot in our hands but also gives us the possibility of finishing in third, thus avoiding qualification. That might prove to be difficult as not only do we have to hope for a Chelsea draw in one of their two fixtures as well as us taking the maximum six points but we are three goals worse off, we would gain at least a goal if Chelsea were to draw but it would mean outscoring them in the remaining games.

Did that make sense? It did in my head sort of. As it stands, I think I would bite your hand off Suarez style for fourth, anything else would be a little bit of a nice surprise.

We have done very well to have racked up the points so far when it looked all but over for us after the Tottenham game at White Hart Lane but in recent weeks we have just about crawled over the finish line. We have rode our luck a little at times and I just hope we can hold on for another two games.

It was bad enough having to support Chelsea yesterday but even worse will be supporting Stoke City for me. Yes even more than Chelsea. If Tottenham fail to win that one on the weekend then we can afford a draw and a victory which really should be possible.

Oh and it is Tuesday that we are playing against Wigan not the weekend like I mumbled yesterday.

Whilst trying to control turtle heads yesterday, I was watching the game thinking about the two sides and comparing them to us and I wondered, why are Chelsea two points ahead of us?

Do you remember the start of this season when Hazard was flying and they won a few games in a row and many people were already crowning them as early champions. They won the league only a couple short years ago and did it impressively.

Questions have been asked as to why we are 20 odd points behind Manchester United and I think the answer to that isn’t too hard to find if you look at what has happened to our squad over the last few seasons. Especially when you compare that to Man U.

It is amazing to think that the Chelsea squad has cost a hell of a lot of money for them to be in a CL qualification scrap with Arsenal and Tottenham. They finished sixth last season so at least it is progress in the league for them. They are lucky they faced last years Bayern and not this because they wouldn’t have been in the competition at all this season.

The reason why I am dragging them into this post is because it just goes to show that even if you have money falling out of your bum, it is very difficult to be consistent when you have a lack squad stability. As good as Hazard and Oscar are technically, they have also needed to adjust to the rigours of the league and country.

Next season could well be interesting especially with Fergie throwing in the towel. Anyway there is not much in the way of news today apart from the announcement that Arsenal will be the first Premier League team to play in Vietnam as part of our pre season tour. That is the club slamming down their flag before anyone else does. We can now see the results of the commercial team. We have really worked hard on bringing in top players in that area and clearly they have been working hard behind the scenes. Smaller sponsorship deals will continue to be brought into the club over the next few years I reckon. Manchester United were ahead of the game years ago and they are benefiting from that today, hopefully we are heading down that path.

Clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton would love to be in our position going forward so I don’t know about you but I am proud of how we are going about our business.

As we know there are some big steps to take to win trophies over the next few years but at least we have the platform to make those steps.

That is about that for now,

’till tomorrow.
