When i read that Theo would wear the number 14 shirt this year i visualized the young lad taking the league by storm. Goals and assists gal or, then i remembered last year. There is no doubt he has improved and there should be no doubt that the lad will be a legend for us, however, this year? I’m not so sure. I think that our player of the season will be RVP or at least i hope. Please don’t miss-construe this article as a negative one, i am very optimistic about this year and its potential. So back to the point, as i thought the reason for the shirt change was not a tactical one i considered other possibilities for it.

This lead me to wonder why Theo would be handed this shirt, i believe it is to keep in-line with the fantastic work Nike have done for us in the last couple of seasons. Of course it is not for us, its for them. This should not let us forget the research that has gone in to Nike and its projects with us. The Highbury farewell shirt and the new away kit which is the best shirt in 20 years in my opinion stand out. To celebrate such a great moment in our history is a very inventive and unique move from Nike. This coupled with the recent ad which has an Arsenal player as its main character, shows that there is some trust in the clubs commercial potential as opposed to other Nike teams Man u being the obvious choice.

Theo14, 14TW , Walcott14 e.t.c. you get the picture. One reason i believe that although every pundit and manager will openly admit the football played at Arsenal is the best, the public still watch Man u and Liverpool over us is our lack of English talent. This will help promote that. Although this will ultimately be decided by the amount of games he plays. Should the popularity of Theo rise then maybe the club can get some games on main stream TV when in Europe. Don’t be surprised if he is the new face of Nike or if lots of merchandise with his name and number become popular amongst the young fans at the grove. COME ON THE GUNNERS.
