Are Arsenal fans that knowledgeable about their team?

As one of the country’s biggest teams, millions of football fans across the UK are familiar with many of Arsenal’s finest moments. From our glory days under Herbert Chapman right through to the early part of Arsene Wenger’s tenure as manager, we have achieved quite a lot, even when compared to Manchester United and Liverpool, but the recent trophy drought has soured things a little.
Fortunately, we have a realistic chance of winning a trophy, even if our Premier League challenge has fallen by the wayside. Should we win the FA Cup, it would end nine years of pain. It might also give younger fans something positive to remember, as our string of fourth-place finishes will often fade into the background. Older fans will have much more to draw on, though.
Regulars and casual fans
A quiz created recently asked Arsenal fans how well do you know your team. The test, created by Ladbrokes, discovered that, compared to supporters of the other 19 sides in the Premier League, Arsenal fans don’t know quite as much as they may have realised. Asking 10 random questions about all things Arsenal, it found that 8% of fans got everything right.
While less than 1% of Gunners fans managed to post a score of zero, a further 10% failed to score more than 2/10. The mean score was somewhere in between four and five; 32% got this sort of score. It’s likely that many of the older fans scored higher than the norm, as many of the questions covered Arsenal’s long and rich history.
In the mix with our rivals
Looking at how our rivals from inside and outside London fared, it seems that we’re somewhere in the middle. Overall, it seems that we have edged out Tottenham in the knowledge stakes, as just 4% of them got 10/10. Also, just 18% got at least 8/10, so at least we’ve outperformed them, although we’re a little behind Chelsea overall, as their average score is close to 6/10 compared to 5/10 for us.
Manchester City’s fanbase has a greater proportion that knows the club inside out, with an impressive 12% getting a perfect score. However, a paltry 3% did the same for Manchester United, which is a little comforting.
