IFF Secretary General, John Liljelund recently commented: “The stakeholders of the Champions Cup have during the last year discussed the ways to continue to develop the Champions Cup. All parties agree that floorball needs a top club competition, but at the same time we need to enhance the marketing value of the product and start to get a return on investment for running it. The stakeholders will still during the spring come with a proposal for how to conduct the Champions Cup in future”

Floorball Champions Cup held in Zurich in October 2014

The Floorball Champions Cup 2014 takes place in Zurich, Switzerland this October. Let’s take a brief tour around this famous city and look ahead to a Central European floorball fiesta!

The tournament

This fourth instalment of the Floorball Champions Cup takes place in Switzerland’s largest city, Zurich. Games will take place at the 2500-seater Saalsporthalle stadium, which will be familiar to floorball fans as a Men’s World Floorball Championships semi-final venue from 2012. 6 men’s and 6 women’s teams will compete in the October tournament, including squads from Switzerland, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Russia and Latvia. The IFF-sponsored tournament will seek to build floorball’s growing brand in continental Europe.

Uncertain future for the Champions Cup

IFF Secretary General, John Liljelund recently commented: “The stakeholders of the Champions Cup have during the last year discussed the ways to continue to develop the Champions Cup. All parties agree that floorball needs a top club competition, but at the same time we need to enhance the marketing value of the product and start to get a return on investment for running it. The stakeholders will still during the spring come with a proposal for how to conduct the Champions Cup in future”

Liljelund’s remarks throw the future of the Champions Cup into serious doubt, meaning this October’s competition could be the last of its kind.

What to do in Zurich

The Floorball Championship Cup offers all the temptation any floorball fan could require to book a flight to Zurich for this October, but many of you will naturally be wondering what else there is to do in Zurich and the surrounding area. There are a wide range of luxurious hotels throughout the city, and – thanks to mobile technology – you can have a wonderful time relaxing with a favourite e-book, playing video games or betting at sites like www.gamingclub.co.uk in your hotel room. Nevertheless, this is Switzerland, and getting out there and seeing some of the sights is a must. Switzerland lies at the very heart of the Alps, and Zurich is just a short trip from some of the best skiing to be found in Europe. If watching the handball gets you thirsty for adrenaline, then a spot of skiing should do nicely! Also on offer nearby are water sports experiences, hiking, fine dining and more. There’ll be far more to Zurich than floorball this October!
