Alex Song was a standout performer on Sunday (for once in a good way) and no matter how gash he my be usually, I say well done to the lad for a top performance in which he was successfully breaking up play, tackling effectively, starting attacks

Now, Far be it from me to ever admit when I’m wrong but the comes a time in ever mans life when he must give some ground on certain things. Even when he is so adamant in his beliefs, overwhelming evidence to the contrary must surely mean that one must raise their hands and say “fair enough”.
Dont get me wrong. My views haven’t changed. I still don’t believe that Alex Song is good enough to play for Arsenal and a high percentage of his performances result in a stinker but given his role in the win over Burnley, I’ll cede some ground and give credit where it is undoubtedly due.
Alex Song was a standout performer on Sunday (for once in a good way) and no matter how gash he my be usually, I say well done to the lad for a top performance in which he was successfully breaking up play, tackling effectively, starting attacks and, believe it or not, getting assists for two of the goals.
As fantastic as Eddie’s finish was for our second and all the plaudits he will rightfully receive for his unique bit of improvisation, you simply cannot understate the quality of the pass from Song. The commentators ignored it completely because of the goal which I thought was a tad harsh. If Lampard, Gerrard or even our very own Cesc had floated a cross as pinpoint as Song’s that resulted in a goal they’d still be cleaning up the ejaculate from the panel in the Setanta studios.
A slick backheel for Eboue to smash home the third was to follow which summed up a great day for the usually much-maligned Cameroonian. A day in which he seemingly was able actually do the job of capable defenisive midfielder (as opposed to whatever it is he usually does) by actually winning many a tackle, breaking up much of anything the visitors tried to create and – you’ll only believe it if you saw it – actually running with the ball before passing it FORWARDS (not a typo). For me, he was easily man of the match and fully warrants any praise he receives.
I must make it clear that it will take much, much more than one performance against a Championship side to change my overall opinion of him given the usual dung performances we are forced to put up with and that this kind of thing will be expected on a much more regular basis before I’m convinced. I will say this however: on this one occasion, Alexandre Dimitri(?) Song Billong take a bow son. I salute you!
A word on the draw. IF we can get past Hull, I’m relishing the prospect of a London derby at Wembley in the semi against CSKA Fulham. There was a time when we would regularly humiliate the Russians in the FA Cup and some fond memories have been provided by the likes of Ray Parlour, Lauren, Sylvain Wiltord and Jose Reyes down the years.
Ah, I do love a good trip down memory lane.
IF we can get past Hull.
For those who love a good coincidence, if it’s Arsenal v Man Utd in the final, it will be, of course, 30 years on from famous 5 minute final of 79. Eduardo at the far post in the last minute for 3-2 anyone?
Also, IF we can get past Hull, the semi is set to be played on the weekend we’re scheduled to travel to Anfield to face Liverpoo. This naturally means that the game will be rearranged. Anyone remember the last time that happened? 20 years ago I think it was… (what? A man is allowed to dream isn’t he?)
