Silvestre back, Clichy off and Gibbs call up, the left back blog

I will enjoy reading Cesc’s name when he is playing football but at the moment it is driving me crazy, especially given the fact that Steven Taylor has been allowed to punch Arshavin in the face with nothing being said about it

Our squad has been growing over the last few weeks, not only growing but improving in quality so much so that poor Mikel Silvestre is trying to look at the boss but he has many moving heads ahead of him. Not actually sure if worked, so let me make it a little more simple.

Mikel Silvestre hasn’t got a hope in hell of getting many football matches for Arsenal this season. He has been out injured for a long while and has slowly been getting on the road to recovery. I feel a bit sorry for him as hardly anyone has spoken about his absence. No media, no supporters not even the very loud and vocal doomers can be bothered to slate him. I suppose they have enough targets at present although they will soon have some vacancies as Denilson, Song and Bendtner are proving their worth to the squad.

The former Manchester United defender has Gallas, Toure and Djourou ahead of him at center back and Gael Clichy and Kieran Gibbs ahead of him at left back. However, he is ready to lend a hand if the manager needs it.

Silvestre said:

“It was very good to be back (Reserve game vs Chelsea) There have been so many big games and the team is doing well, so you want to enjoy that as much as you can and be involved. I am glad of our progress and hopefully I can join in now.

“It has been the second injury for me. It was the same leg, my left leg, but this time it wasn’t the muscle, it was the tendon, so that takes much longer to recover. You have to make sure it is completely healed before you can go back in the team. That’s why it was so long this time.”

To be fair to him he had a decent start to his Arsenal career and was fit during a rather inconsistent period. Had he been playing in this current team then you would see better performances from him although getting infront of the others would be a massive task for him. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him either retire or move clubs come the summer.

Kieran Gibbs is at the other end of the ZX Spectrum to Silvestre and the youngster has been called up to the England under 21s which is great for the lad. Not sure who is currently their left back but I’d be surprised if he is better than Gibbs.

Gibbs has a massive task on his hands in the future. Imagine coming into training and watching Clichy fly in, nip the ball off his opponent then sprint past two players down the pitch. You know you have to play at a stupidly high level to replace him.

Gael Clichy is one of my current favourite players and for a left back that is quite something. I was especially pleased to witness his performance against Newcastle, it certainly was turn the clock back a year time. Lets hope he can continue that from now on.

The Guardian are claiming that Hull have been giving more time to compile their dossier against Cesc Fabregas. My take is…………………………zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! *wakes up with dribble running down lip*

I will enjoy reading Cesc’s name when he is playing football but at the moment it is driving me crazy, especially given the fact that Steven Taylor has been allowed to punch Arshavin in the face with nothing being said about it. James Richardson mentioned it on the Guardian podcast and it was quickly dusted off under the carpet with no proper talk of it. I sat there angry and frustrated but I should be used to it by now.

Does anyone remember Arsene Wenger telling the cameras that he knew what was going on. this was during the time when we were getting continuous bad decisions going against us.

I cannot find the quotes anywhere, if anyone remembers, then please let me know. I wonder what his thoughts are on this anti Arsenal campaign that is so obviously out there.

Oh look, its International week. It is a great chance to start stories about Arsenal players going to clubs so they can sit on the bench win big prizes as the Dutch would say.

Gael Clichy is on is way to Milan as we speak.

Clichy speaking to L’Equipe, said:

“I don’t know anything. I am very happy at Arsenal. It is true AC Milan are a great club. It is flattering to know you are followed by such a team.”

The Sun newspaper have interpreted that as Clichy delight at Milan link

They sure are a clever bunch aren’t they?

Enjoy your lunch, back tomorrow.
