Unusual Wenger comments, Arshavin and injuries

I don’t think the position behind the forward really suits Cesc. He has done certain things well there because of his quality passing but someone like Nasri would be better suited

Happy Monday Gooners,

Great result in the end over the weekend, it certainly was a game of two halves wasn’t it? Wigan must feel as sick as a parrot after that, I mean they are too good to go down but there are no easy games in this league, it is still all to play for but we look too strong on paper for them, their defence was at sixes and sevens during the game because it is a funny old game.

Ok, cliches over now. I have to admit I was a little worried before half time, but I remembered some wise words I read on that morning.

I predict Wigan to start quickly and put us under pressure from the start but we have enough attacking quality to turn the match around in our favour.

ok, they were mine and I am entitled to brag about it as my predictions have been pretty much hopeless this season so far. Oh and I may have missed out an Arsenal goal but I think it was close enough.

Our first half performances in our last two games have not really been good enough, we have some big games coming up and we have to make sure that we are switched on from the first whistle. Chelsea will tear us to shreds if we are not on point. Bolton scoring 3 goals at Stamford Bridge is a bonus though.

Very interesting Wenger comments that came out over the weekend, has anyone seen the full interview? Some of what he is supposed to have said doesn’t sound like something he would say in public.

For example..

“The Adebayor business: ‘I’m going, I’m staying, I’m going, I’m staying’ was also an important factor

Interesting read any how, it is on Arsenal.com so one can only assume they are in context.

I think we made a short backwards step during the summer and that was only due to experience. This campaign the players have stepped further forward in my opinion. The squad have all been forced to develop due to injuries to many first team players, players like Song, Eboue, Denilson etc may not have stepped up as much had the likes of Rosicky (who was supposed to be back at the start of the season but for a major setback), Cesc and Theo remained fit for a larger chunk of the season but having said that we could have been fighting with Liverpool and the Mancs for the title right about now.

Speaking of progressing youngsters, Jay Simpson remains determined to come back to Arsenal and make an impact on the first team.

Simpson said:

“Nothing has been said to me but I want to go back to Arsenal, The deal was for me to come to West Brom and get first-team experience.

“My plan is to go back to Arsenal and get into their first team. Everyone wants to play in the Premier League but I want to go back and make a difference.”

I like the way the lad is thinking, however he knows he has a major task on his hands to jump the queue. He has 2 goals in 12 games which currently isn’t enough to make Wenger throw him straight in at Champions League level but we have all seen his strong points and if he keeps developing at a fast rate then he has a chance in the future.

Andrey Arshavin is finding it difficult to settle into life in London.

“It is very difficult for me, everything is unusual, Now I’m in a hotel. Next week I will move. I have to settle. Everything is difficult.

“I’m happy to be here in English football – it is the best league in the world. I am happy with my professional life but I am unhappy in everyday life, it is difficult for me. I am alone for the first time in my life, I had never left St Petersburg before.”

It is not a surprise is it? Staying in a hotel without family, anyone in any new country would find that a challenge, when he moves into his luxury Hampstead house (just a guess of course) with his family staying with him it will be very different.

I like many have been very impressed with Andrey on all levels. We know he is a talent but his personality is already coming through. He looks like a winner, is a very hard worker and appears to be a positive influence in our squad. If only he was a couple years young but hey, beggars can’t be choosers as they say. I didn’t realise I was going back to cliches again.

Big game on Wednesday ey? I shall be there and I am excited like anything about it. Shame about Johan Djourou who is missing for roughly 6 weeks through an injury he picked up against Wigan. We have to make sure that we do not pick up anymore defensive injuries infact can we just not have anymore injuries full stop? Enough is enough. I hope we are looking into why our squad are getting so many injuries. It cannot be luck, surely not.

Wenger is also a tad concerned about our defensive problems.

“We are feeling a little stretched. That injury to Djourou is a massive blow to us. We lost Gallas last week and now Djourou. We cannot afford to lose any more players in the centre of defence.”

Great news that Marcos Senna will be missing through injury, I didn’t believe it at first, thought it was the usual ‘oops we have our best player injured and then oh great news, he is back just before kick off’ but it looks to be confirmed. Cesc, Denilson and Song will be pleased.

Arsene Wenger has indicted that Cesc may well be moved back into his usual midfield role at some point.

Wenger said:

“I would still say the deeper role suits him more because he likes to get the ball from the centre back and he has a good long pass. That’s more him than a guy who plays behind the strikers who might have more pace to penetrate.

“He is very good in the hole too but I believe that is because of the quality of his passing and less for his individual game.”

I don’t think the position behind the forward really suits Cesc. He has done certain things well there because of his quality passing but someone like Nasri would be better suited, someone mobile enough to pick the ball up and drive forward, shoot or beat an opponent as well as the final pass.

Arsene has had plenty to say on Arsenal.com, so go and take a read. After you leave your view of course.

Right, that is just about that for now. I shall think of some more of that to write tomorrow.
