In recent matches Fabregas has been playing in just behind the main striker or commonly referred to as “the hole” with Samir Nasri playing as a screening midfielder along with Denilson/Song. This looks identical to the formation Liverpool play with Mascherano and Alonso as screening midfielders and Gerrard playing just behind Torres.

Now we all know playing behind the striker is not Fabregas‘s natural position and I feel he is wasted in that position. Yes he did score two goals in the weekend but with all due respect to Middleborough they are not a Manchester United or Chelsea. Fabregas ‘s game is based on his superb passing ability and vision and hence I feel him playing deeper in midfield will add more creativity while Samir Nasri is more suited to the role behind the striker. Cast your mind back to January when Arsenal was struggling to score goals and they were scrapping those 1-0 victories. In the second half of those matches Wenger shifted Nasri to the centre and it was because of his creativity Arsenal were able to get those results. Also remember the Champions League knockout stage first leg Vs Roma at the Grove where Nasri played behind Van Persie and tormented the Roma defence.

Nasri is much more of a skilful player than Fabregas and has the ability to go past his man which Fabregas cannot do and also a very slick passer which could help unlock a defence in the final third.

I am not opposing to what Wenger is trying to do by playing Fabregas in his new role as he knows his players better than me and I would be very happy to be proved wrong but I feel this is not the time for Wenger to be trying new experiments with the club facing its most important couple of weeks this season.
