As much as I do not like Cesc behind Adebayor he can rotate with the other midfielders behind him during the game. What is most important is our balance and I believe that Diaby out on the left makes us unbalanced
Hello again,
I haven’t been able to write for a few days family duties have taken over my time, it usually is but more than usually this weekend. I did however get the chance to watch the Arsenal Pompey match which was always a game that we were going to sacrifice. Wenger proved that by resting a huge chunk of his first team. I thought we would lose the game before hand but the squad players had something to prove and they played with great attitude. It was nice to see two strikers at the top end of the pitch, we haven’t seen that for a few weeks now and we know that Vela and Bendtner have a good partnership.
Arshavin wasn’t at his best from what I saw but he had a hand in all three Arsenal goals which just shows his quality. Whenever he plays and we score it seems like he almost always has a part to play in it somewhere.
Emmanuel Eboue doing his Dennis Irwin impression had a good game at left back, he was like an extra left winger during most parts as he was hardly tested. I don’t see Monsieur Wenger playing him against Ronaldo on Wednesday though.
Today and tomorrow during the day will be all about tomorrow night. It is on every Arsenal and Manchester United’s supporters mind at present, I know its on mine thats for sure.
Since the first leg, I have been concerned about Manchester United scoring an away goal but yesterday I got a great image of us destroying them from the start. Not that my thoughts or predictions are anything to trust but it was a nice feeling. I hope we can take of the proverbial handbrake and go for the throat from the offset.
I don’t want us to be too cagey and negative, thinking about their threat too much. A controlled attacking display is what is needed. I am one of Diaby’s biggest fans amongst all the criticism but I do not want to see him out wide. He is not a creative wide player who will come inside and find a breathtaking through ball, he is a box to box powerful talented midfielder who needs a run of games to produce his best.
It can be 4-4-2 it can be 4-3-2-1, it can be 4-4-1-1. I just want to see Samir Nasri on the left, and Theo Walcott on the right. As much as I do not like Cesc behind Adebayor he can rotate with the other midfielders behind him during the game. What is most important is our balance and I believe that Diaby out on the left makes us unbalanced. Maybe not a fact but at this stage that is what I believe.
Like Manchester United did to us at Old Trafford, it is important that we defend from the front and press them high up the pitch. Make them give the ball away to Cesc or Nasri and the likes of Walcott and Adebayor can make early runs and get in behind.
Speaking of winning it from the front, I watched the Madrid, Barca game and I loved it. I must say, Barca are an impressive football team, if only their club could match that. Their pass and move game would have got Wenger pretty excited. Thierry Henry and Messi were fantastic. Real Madrid did give them far too much room to do their stuff.
It was great to see Diarra lose the ball inside his own half for Messi to run in and score. I have never rated Diarra, although Ole Gunner is a massive fan *ahem ahem*
After the match I kept wondering what it would be like for us if we had our full team for a larger part of the season. I also wondered how we could fair playing the Barca 4-3-3 for a whole season, it would suit the trio in the middle and would suit the likes of Arshavin and Walcott in the wide areas but we would have to leave out a massive player.
Anyway, back to reality. Theo Walcott has been thanking his lucky stars after the first leg.
“It was quite difficult to get into the game, I think a lot of the attacking players could say that. We didn’t create any chances, other than a few bits and pieces. Hopefully we can create some chances on Tuesday. We would have taken a 1-0 defeat beforehand and especially given the number of chances they had. We can win the second leg 1-0 and take it to extra-time.”
We may well have to score 3 to beat them if we do not keep a clean sheet, but if there is one team in the Premier League to do that then it is Arsenal.
Arsene has indicated that he could revert back to 4-4-2 if Van Persie is fit, as he trained with the squad you would only assume that he is likely to come back into the side.
More talk of the biggest game of our season tomorrow in the match thoughts.
