Transfer door will not close on Vermaelen, more will follow

I have a feeling that all our business will be done nice and early. Much of the work behind the scenes would have been done by Arsene and the board

It is a bright and sunny day in North London today, it is a shame that I do not feel as awake as the sunshine appears to be.

According to Sky Sports central defender Thomas Vermaelen is due to undergo a medical at Arsenal. Hopefully all should go well if this is true. One of the fun parts of when a player signs is Arsene Wenger’s talk afterwards about what the player can bring to the team, especially when you know very little about the player.

Thomas Vermaelen was speaking to a Belgian newspaper and said:

“On Friday I will fly to London to have my medical. After that I hope to put pen to paper. Boy I feel so proud, Arsenal is a fantastic club and one that, as a child, I enjoyed watching play. Arsene Wenger stands for nice, attacking football and dares to work with young talents. That appeals to me enormously.

“Not that it tipped the scales though. When a club like Arsenal stands at your door, then you just go. When I get to the Emirates Stadium on Friday I will be hugely impressed. A lot will change in my life. Next season I will come up against the best strikers in the world. I am not scared by that, I will give all my body can give. This is one of the most beautiful days of my life.”

It would certainly be quite an elaborate lie wouldn’t it? So you can only assume that there is plenty of truth in what the player is saying.

Right, while I am on this road let me get to the end of Speculation Street.

The new hot story on the street is Van Persie leaving Arsenal to join Manchester United. That must have taken them a while to think that one up, well done guys. Van Persie stalling on contract, Manchester United selling Ronaldo = What an amazing story!!

Quickly moving on from that and focusing on a story that Gunnerblog broke on the blogs last night and that is of Marouane Chamakh from Bordeaux apparently being close to signing with us according to French journalist and friend of Arsene, Philippe Auclair.

I like many I guess watched the You Tube clip that was embedded on the Gunnerblog article and laughed so much. You don’t expect to watch a video of a player with loads of mistakes and missed chances, I found it somewhat surreal. We did get to see some of his goals towards the end of the clip which made us feel a little better. It is still very much speculation right now but I would trust Philippe Auclair much more than I would do the Daily Mail or The Sun etc

Another name that has crept up again is that of Brazilian midfielder Felipe Melo. His name came up a few years ago if I am not mistaken, and now reports are that are going to try and activate the clause on his contract which would allow him to leave Fiorentina for roughly £15 million. I know very little about the player so I am not about to pretend like I do.

Unfortunatley there seems to be a few people who are clinging onto our club and trying to make money from writing complete rubbish. They have been proved in the past to make up stories then change them when it was found to be incorrect. Makes me sick.

I have a feeling that all our business will be done nice and early. Much of the work behind the scenes would have been done by Arsene and the board. Locating players, speaking to the clubs and then the players then in the next few weeks we should start to see medicals and signings of contracts.

I am sure we will start to see balancing of the books during the same time. The biggest question is what Wenger plans to do with Adebayor. His future will be key to our transfers.

However I do not expect the Ajax skipper to be the last face into the club, Wenger will continue his long term goal by bringing in talented youngsters and he will have the ACN in mind. Another midfielder would be likely. It is hard to guess his plans as we do not know how much he has to play with.

It should be an exciting few weeks.

I started writing the Season Review about a week after the season finished and I didn’t really get the choice to sit down and finish it all in one go so it dragged on and on. Because it is so late after the season I thought I would add a season conclusion and a shorter preview of the new season.

I wanted to summarise our season but I ended up going into far too much detail. I am sure there is much of it that you will not agree with but if you can be arsed and want to read it then just click HERE

Enjoy your day guys and girls, back tomorrow.
