Wenger wants targets before July pre season / Melo, fact or fiction?

Wenger would have been painfully hurt by last season. Contrary to what some fans think, he does not want to finish 4th. Arsene is a winner has always been and will always be a winner

You know what I hate? writing part of an article only for a problem to occur and then everything that you have written has vanished. I wrote whatever I wrote this morning so now I have no idea what I was talking about. So now part of the future has been rewritten and now I bring to you back to the waffle part 2.

ok, enough nonsense for now, we have some juicy news to talk about today. Where to start, where to start. How about our number 11, Robin Van Persie (which reminds me of what I was talking about before the crash) is close to agreeing a new contract that will extend his contract to 2013, he will be allegedly earning £70,000 per week. Apparently the deal was sorted out a while ago and they were just waiting to announce the good news to everyone.

We all know that Robin is a great talent and we have finally had a full season from him after terrible injuries since he joined the club. Top scorer for Arsenal and top assists in the league just prove his worth. He has developed his team play and is vital to our chances next season. Although he tends to slow the game down and can lack flexibility his positives greatly out weigh his short comings.

So a new center back joining and one of our stars signing a new deal is a good way to start this article, but wait! It is not over yet.

Arsene has confirmed that he does not want anyone of his players departing the club this summer.

Wenger said:

“We lost Hleb and Flamini last summer and we have had to rebuild, But we have done that now and the future looks bright. We don’t want to have to rebuild again, so I want to keep all the players together for next season. I don’t want to lose anyone.

The rebuild really effected us last season, it took us much longer than Wenger would have predicted for the team to gel together and find a balance etc. When they did they showed they are capable of doing this business. Keeping the squad together will be great, if we can do that then I shall be even more confident of success next season.

I read plenty of contradiction around the blogs. One second they say our squad is not big enough to compete with Manchester United the next minute they are designing price tags for Adebayor, Eboue, Diaby, Senderos, Denilson, Bendtner even Van Persie.

Injuries have been our enemy in the last couple years and more options would reduce the problem of injuries.

Wenger is still looking to add to the squad and sooner rather than later.

Arsene said:

“I want to add to the squad and have identified one or two targets. But identifying players and buying them are two different things.

“Ideally I would like to bring everybody in before we start back in pre-season training in July. I don’t want to leave it until the end of August.”

He sounds like he means business. Wenger would have been painfully hurt by last season. Contrary to what some fans think, he does not want to finish 4th. Arsene is a winner has always been and will always be a winner.

I really believe that next season will be the year. I know, I know, I thought last year would be but this time I am really serious… and stuff.

So he has two targets, we do not know if they are for the same position or different locations on the pitch. We are short in numbers in central midfield.

I have to admit that I will be surprised to see someone in their mid twenties coming in to start ahead of Denilson and Song especially after the improvements they made last season. Obviously the team is more important and if someone comes along that is head and shoulders above what we have then Wenger will make it happen if he can.

Felipe Melo is a name that keeps getting mentioned over and over again and I am not quite sure where the link has come from. Can someone point me to something concrete, because I cannot find it.

Melo recently said:

“Obviously it is a good thing that great clubs are interested, as it shows that I worked well. But as I said, I have a good relationship with Fiorentina, with the directors and the fans.”

Which doesn’t sound anything like I am joining Arsenal or even that Arsenal are interested in me but it certainly is a story that is doing the rounds.

Gael Clichy has pretty much said the same thing in the past about being linked with AC Milan

Clichy said back in March 2009:

“I am very happy at Arsenal. It is true that AC Milan are a great club. It is flattering to know you are followed by such a team.”

Sounds pretty similar don’t you think? I do not mean to be a spoil sport but I just feel that we need to separate the bull to the reality. However from the little I have seen of him he looks like a good little player. It would be Wenger like to purchase a Brazilian newcomer as apposed to someone who has already made the big time.

From Wenger’s comments I found the formation conversation the most interesting. We all know that we have a collection of fine playmakers and trying to fit them in will be tricky next year. Wenger was speaking about adapting the formation to accommodate his key players.

Wenger said:

“Next season we will play the formation and system that most suits the players and the balance of the team. That means it’s not rigid. It can evolve throughout the season, depending on circumstances and personnel.

“If you play with Theo Walcott for example, you are more tempted to go for three midfielders because Theo is more of a forward than a midfielder in a 4-4-2.”

We have all spoken about the 4-3-3 we have all watched Barcelona’s success this season playing that system and it could well suit many of our players.

We will know exactly what Arsene plans to do come the pre season games. The training ground is where he gets to test his product and pre season is where he sells it to Arsenal fans.

So everything sounds good today, but can everyone listen up I have something sad to say. José Antonio Reyes has been dumped on his arse by Benfica and is now without a club. Lets all have him in our thoughts and hope that he can find sunshine somewhere else.
