Adebaysnore stories, doubting youth & Wenger praise

I turn to number 19 Jack Wilshere, sorry I know I write about him quite often but I think I am a little obsessed with him, in a healthy way of course

My gosh, it is a slow news day today. Yesterday was action packed full of positive Arsenal goodness, today we are left with nothing much to chew on. One thing I have in between my teeth is that of Emmanuel Adebayor.

A day after our manager publicly said that he wants to keep his squad together, speculation continues to head towards our Togolese front man.

Adebayor’s agent Stephane Courbis has been talking about his client.

“There has been no meeting with Milan for Adebayor and I’ve not received any telephone calls from them recently.

“I don’t know whether he is for sale. I spoke to Wenger this morning and he didn’t say anything to that effect.

“I’ve not spoken about the alleged interest from Chelsea or Manchester United. But Adebayor would like to work with Ancelotti because Milan tried to acquire him last summer. Another team has contacted us, but I cannot say anything, it’s a very important team.””

The Mirror produced a headline saying ‘Arsenal offer Emmanuel Adebayor to AC and Inter Milan to fend off Chelsea – Exclusive’

But then they quote from the agent that Arsene didn’t say that he is for sale. Interesting.

So an important team are interested ey? What makes them so important? What exactly is an important team? Who knows, to be honest it is all getting a little boring now.

I expect to see Adebayor at Arsenal next year, if anything changes then we can deal with it. All these stories are just tedious now.

Continuing the striking theme, our manager has been full of praise for Nicklas Bendtner.

Wenger said:

Nicklas has made big improvements since the start of the season. He has become an important player for this club,” Wenger told the club’s official magazine.

“When Nicklas is really switched on and focused, he is a handful for any defence in the world. He has shown that in the second part of the season. People forget how young he is, but I am sure he has won many people over in the second half of the season.”

There is no doubt that Bendtner has been climbing that long ladder of improvement and I am trying to work out what kind of player he will be when he reaches the very top of his personal ladder.

A box striker? half striker? target man? perhaps a mixture of all of those ingredients. It makes you wonder about the future of all the young players we have on our books. I was watching a clip of Ronaldo in his Sporting Lisbon days (blame my little brother) and it struck me how skinny and raw he was. Obviously skilful and cocky but nothing like the finished article that we witnessed a couple of seasons ago.

It really was a slap in the face to how a young player isn’t really himself until they have physically and mentally grown but not only that but had a run of matches in the first team.

I would advise anyone who enjoys berating the likes of Denilson and Song to find some footage of other midfielders such as Essien, Lampard etc at 19, 20 years old, they are certainly not the same players now as they were all those years ago.

Once again I turn to number 19 Jack Wilshere, sorry I know I write about him quite often but I think I am a little obsessed with him, in a healthy way of course. If he can take the same physical strides that Ronaldo has done over the last few years then we will all be in for a treat. He looks as if he has one of the best football brains in the squad even at 17 but he is still playing in a boy’s body. Even so he still puts himself around, chasing opposition players and sticking a foot in but against more senior players he currently bounces off them, in a few years time after his natural growth and any extra gym work he will be ready to be a fixture in our Arsenal team for years to come even with the list of talented attacking players we already have.

I read an excellent comment on another blog about Denilson. It roughly said something like.

‘It is strange that Denilson gets so much grief on the blogs because when you are at the ground he gets applauded so much every time he makes an interception or wins the ball back which is so frequent. It is almost as if people forget what they saw or cheered because they have not seen a crunching tackle’

That is so true and I thought the same thing myself against Manchester City at the Emirates. But this is not another for and against Denilson argument they are boring now, I just thought that was a very valid comment from someone who I forget.

Arsene Wenger has had some nice things to say about the clubs January recruits. Ivan Gazidis and Andrey Arshavin.

Wenger said:

“We are starting to notice the differences he is making at the club, Everyone with a big responsibility like that has a different personality which they bring to the job, and he is making a few changes.

“Ivan Gazidis came in and he lightened the workload for Ken Friar [the acting managing director], certainly, and myself a bit too.”

Every time I have heard him speak he has sounded impressive, he has helped with the Arshavin deal and has recently tied up the Walcott and soon the Van Persie deals. Like Wenger he is always very interesting to listen to when he is interviewed.

Arsene also spoke of how much he wanted Arshavin at Arsenal.

“I was determined to sign Andrei Arshavin, and credit to him, he was determined to join us as well, As soon as I met him I was convinced he was the right man for us.

“Andrei Arshavin came in and he had no real preparation before we signed him, so we kept him in training for three weeks. In fact his first game was the goalless draw against Sunderland, but he was still getting fitter. After that he made a very quick impact.

“The 4-4 draw at Anfield was a massively spectacular game. It was a game in which we just got caught again in the last minute, but in fairness on the night, Liverpool didn’t deserve to lose.

“They played at a top pace – it was a fantastic game. Andrei Arshavin got four goals at Anfield – four great goals. He showed what he is about, speed, finishing, character and personality. It was a great night for him.”

If there ever was an Arsene Wenger type player then you just have to look in the direction of Andrey Arshavin. I remember thinking that same very thing when watching him at the European Championships.

Wenger said he was determined to sign the player but according to the anti Wenger doomers, Arshavin was bought by Gazidis. Stuff like that gets on my very last nerves. As if Wenger would ever have players coming into his squad without his say so.

I like all Gooners are looking forward to watching Arshavin fully fit and sharp next season. Defences better beware.

Well that is just about that for today, probably more speculation and agents spouting tomorrow.
