Speculation turns beyond ridiculous as Benzema and Ribery are linked

Karim Benzema is on his way to Arsenal for £30 million. I mean come on, we usually spend £30 million on players every couple of weeks so it is gonna happen. Cue the sell Ade for w

Good afternoon, I feel invigorated and refreshed after the weekend. I was going to write something on the site over the weekend but I didn’t get the chance to so I think if there is not much news going round then the weekend will be my off days as they are my busiest time.

I watched most of the Confederations cup final last night and it was a pretty exciting game. I felt a bit sorry for USA who managed to get a 2-0 lead, mainly playing counter attacking football. Brazil didn’t off much of a shield in front of their back four whenever USA broke at speed. The Melo rumours continue today with Gilberto doing his best to be Arsenal spokesman.

Gilberto said:

“We heard rumours and he asked me. I said it’s a fantastic club and if he’s interested he should go without thinking, He is exactly what they need – a powerful player with quality.

“If they got him it would be great because he is a player they need at the moment. I’m sure if they got him it would be a good signing. I have told him Arsenal is a great club and I am sure next season they will improve.”

I still do not know where this rumour started from and why it is now gospel that we want him. I do not remember Arsene, Arsenal, Fiorentina or any agents speaking about this apart from Melo saying something along the lines of ‘It is nice that there is apparent interest, but I am happy blah blah’

I don’t really like talking about players who might have no link with Arsenal whatsoever but on days when nothing happens it is the only thing I can do I suppose.

Anyway, Brail fought back to win 3-2 and the jubilation on the players faces made me think about our squad and what it will be like for them to be successful. The players need it and hopefully will achieve success next season.

I really am excited about the new season, I hope the mental side of things are in order before the season kicks off because I still believe that it was this problem that slowed us down at vital times last season more than almost anything else. This time round we will not have players having to gel in and forge new partnerships all of the pitch like we did at the start of 2008/2009. Only Vermaelen so far will have to adjust to life as a Premier League footballer.

Theo Walcott and Kieran Gibbs prepare for the under 21s final tonight with the former likely to be deployed as a striker due to absences of Fraizer Campbell and Gabriel Agbonlahor through suspension.

Theo has had an inconsistent tournament thus far, a positive ending along with a pretty major trophy at this stage of his career could be what he needs to push on and establish himself as a consistent performer in season 2009/2010.

I am split on my views on him down the middle, sometimes I imagine him bursting onto a through pass and slotting it past the advancing keeper. Other times I see a player being marked so tightly and sat back so deep that Theo brings little contribution to the team. In any case I do not think we will see Walcott as an Arsenal regular striker for some time unless he manages to produce breathtaking performances that could blow the likes of Van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo, Bendtner and Vela out of the water.

The transfer rumours have surprised me over the last few days, they have suddenly turned even more ridiculous.

Lets start with Adebayor. Arsene Wenger is happy to let him go? Really? Where did the word happy come from?

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani said:

If Dzeko is [available] we will start talking sums. Adebayor and [Sevilla striker] Luis Fabiano are the alternatives. For Adebayor there has been a telephone call, during which [Arsenal’s manager Arsène] Wenger was friendly,”

I think I may have a reading problem, because the word happy isn’t appearing when I read through it. I kind of thought Wenger said he wasn’t for sale.

But wait, it gets even better than this. Karim Benzema is on his way to Arsenal for £30 million. I mean come on, we usually spend £30 million on players every couple of weeks so it is gonna happen. Cue the sell Ade for w, sell Eboue for x sell Diaby y (all for massive prices that suit us) then buy Benzema for x (for cheaper than realistically possible, to of course suit us)

Sorted! We now have a smaller squad, lost a premier league player and then signed a player who has never played outside of France. Good stuff. Not for one second saying that Benzema hasn’t got quality because he has, I am just saying that Benzema to Arsenal is a load of utter rubbish.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get more far fetched, some Sunday nonsense claims that Arsenal are set to bid £40 million for Frank Ribery. Oh dear. So he passed up the chance to buy him at £16 million to purchase an older version for £24 million more. But of course.

Next season should be interesting with Melo, Benzema and Ribery in our squad. Our first pre season game against Barnet is 18 days away whay hey!!!

Away from the playing side, it looks like Alisher Usmanov is trying to find another way into the house after not being able to squeeze through the window or the chimney. The letterbox is his next pursuit. I do not know enough about the in’s and out’s but you can look on the Guardian and The Telegraph for differing opinions.

Put it this way, I have issues in trusting someone who wants to put in without taking much more out. He has nothing to do with Arsenal so financial gain will surely be his only motivation.

Back tomorrow.
