Phillipe Senderos played in the holding role in the second half, we know that he will not be starting the season in that role and probably not even at the club so what does this mean?
Good Evening,
I am back in London after my weekend foray to Amsterdam, first time there and I am very much in love with the place. Such polite and relaxed people. A weekend without any Arsenal news was a bit difficult to handle but managed to get through it.
I have come back to a load of hot air at the moment, it was pretty easy to pick out what is complete nonsense and what may have some truth behind it.
Bendtner to Milan, Fiorentina chasing Eboue, Toure off to Manchester City, Huntelaar to Arsenal and Vucinic to partner Huntelaar in our attack.
I suppose they have to think about something while the club are keeping themselves to themselves.
The one that I can see happening is the Kolo Toure to Manchester City story. Toure handed in a transfer request last season and wanted to join City. My sources tell me that Wenger told Toure to wait until the end of the season and that he would not sell mid season while the club were short of numbers, Wenger also asked for discretion which Toure agreed.
If Kolo leaves the club then I wonder if Arsene would invest in another center back. With the likes of Vermaelen, Gallas, Djourou, Silvestre and Song I wonder if there is enough strength past the first three players. We know what happened to the central defence at such an important time towards the end of last season.
Senderos is missing from that list as Wenger and the player have hinted that his future could well lie elsewhere. Should Toure leave for a decent sum of money (don’t forget that he only cost £150k) then along with the Adebayor cash you would expect Arsene to go summer shopping at 5.45pm on the last day of the sales to find out which bargains he can pick up. I expect this transfer window to have yet another Arsenal late flurry.
I have just finished watching the boys beat Szombathelyi 5-0. Wenger’s teams are looking closer to the team and shape that will play against Everton at Goodison park.
Nicklas Bendtner continued his impressive pre season goal scoring with another brace, his strike partners Eduardo and Van Persie also notched two a piece each. The lone striker seems to be the way forward, I cannot imagine that we will start the season like that without starting that way in any of our first three pre season matches so far.
Eduardo played well and scored two goals but I do not think he does his best work in wide areas, his greatest strength can only really be used in the center, having said that he did fire across the keeper from wide to grab his first goal of the afternoon.
Wenger has showed us what his first choice defence is. Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Clichy
They are playing as much as possible right now to create an understanding, to learn each others weakness and strong points. I believe that the second half team was as close to a first team as possible without our missing players. Ramsey was kept in the second half as Cesc Fabregas’ replacement, and Wilshere was deputising for Rosicky or Walcott. Interesting that Eduardo stayed on ahead of Bendtner.
Phillipe Senderos played in the holding role in the second half, we know that he will not be starting the season in that role and probably not even at the club so what does this mean? Is Senderos warming the holding role for another? Wenger has money to spend from the sale of Emmanuel Adebayor and it is not impossible that Wenger will allow Toure to join Manchester City.
Denilson was reintroduced into the second half along with Bendtner so perhaps Wenger wanted to have a look at different combinations and options.
I could well be completely incorrect, I am just trying to get inside the head of our manager and preparation for a season is bound to give away a few secrets before Everton away.
Back tomorrow.
