Arsene Wenger was talking about avoiding complacency and that is very important, it was one of the things that damaged our season last season in my opinion, that any injuries because I do not think ability has ever been the problem
Back at normal time at last, I cannot remember the last lunch time post that has gone up, it is time to get my life back in order. That is just talk, I am sure I am not going to happen anytime soon.
Ok, onto things Arsenal, actually no. Lets talk things Liverpool for a second. Hahahhahaha. Now to things Arsenal.
Cesc Fabregas has missed training ahead of the Celtic game which has lead the press to start jumping around about him missing the Manchester United game. Oh I mean, drat! What a shame that he is missing, they are probably going to have to abandon their game plan and think about stopping Wilshere who will probably replace him in the middle. Oh no, we are going to be doomed. If Cesc doesn’t play tomorrow then that is probably the end of our season and so on etc *insert something negative here*
Arsene Wenger was talking about avoiding complacency and that is very important, it was one of the things that damaged our season last season in my opinion, that any injuries because I do not think ability has ever been the problem. The way the team are fighting for each other, I cannot see how complacency will become a problem, especially with natural leaders such as Arshavin and Vermaelen in the side from the beginning.
I suppose complacency is common amongst talented youngsters, it would be something that slowly disappears as you mature.
Wenger said:
“We experienced a very physical game over there. We know the job has to be finished, but we are still in a strong position. The result will be determined by the way we play the second leg.”
Without wanting to get all complacent myself, I cannot see anything other than a controlled professional victory without really having to up that many gears. It will of course be physical, we know that after the first leg but unless we really fall asleep then I do not think they have enough talent to beat us by 3 clear goals or win on away goals but obviously the boys will have to try and kill off the game early, an early goal for us would pretty much finish the game. I am sure Mowbrays boys will be looking for that early goal themselves.
The Blaise Matuidi rumours have resurfaced again. Apparently we have made a fresh move for him. What happened to the old move? Was that dirty and useable? Will this fresh bid be fresh enough? Lets hope so, not that I have seen the player to be hopeful about but if Wenger is truly keen on the player then that is good enough for moi.
In me ol humble opinion I think we do need another defensive midfielder, preferably someone who is comfortable at right full back, a little like a dolphin headed player without the bad attitude and preferably the dolphin shaped head but someone with that kind of ability and with an attention span longer than my two year old son.
With the reformed Eboue going away to the ACN the numbers behind Sagna look a tad short, or even almost non existent so that will hopefully be addressed. I am pretty certain that Wenger and Gazzy will be adding a late shift to their time sheet come the close of the transfer window. For those who are complaining about the lack of activity coming into the club do not forget Gallas, Diarra, Arshavin, Denilson etc all late additions so lets wait and see what happens.
It is a tad sad I know but I do enjoy the late countdown of the transfer window, Newsnow must get refreshed thousands of times per second and that is just per Gooner.
After Diaby and Wenger’s comments, another player talking about our new formation is our pocket sized Andrey Arshavin.
“On a personal level, Arsenal have changed their system this season and moved my position. I used to play on the left-hand side of a four-man midfield but we’ve gone to three in the middle and that has helped me become more of an attacking player.
“But we can always switch back to the old system if we have to because we have players who can be fluid and adaptable. We can move anywhere depending on the situation in front of us. If I see an opportunity I can exploit on the right-hand side of the pitch I’ll go over and take advantage of it.”
We haven’t seen the best of little Andrey so far (I have to stop talking about his size, he could get a complex) the big Russian hasn’t been able to influence the games as well as he would have liked. I would go as far as to say the unfit version of last January was more influential but it will come. We know what he has in his locker and he will whip it out soon. What I would like to see more from him though is having a go at his opponent. Trying to run with the ball and commit the fullback or center back. We know he is fully capable of that but we do not always see it. He is quick with quick feet but he usually goes for the through pass or linking up with others.
We miss players who can do that, especially when they can mix it up then it can be a massive bonus for us. Theo is the other way, cannot quite mix it up as well but he can commit the opposition and that gives us another dimension..pay close attention.
Well done to the little Goons, they took apart Fulham 3-0 in the first game of the Reserves league. Jacky boy Wilshere wasn’t included which is interesting, perhaps he will feature on the bench against Celtic.
French boys Sunu, Coquelin got themselves on the score sheet along with substitute Roarie Deacon who scored 10 minutes from time. Unfortunately I was not able to watch the game but I hear that my boy Francis Coquelin had another impressive game. When I say my boy, I don’t actually mean my boy that would be weird, I just mean that I like the player a lot and hope for big things of him in the future. I wonder what part of his game that he has to work on for Arsene to think of him in the first team squad, perhaps it is a physical thing, maybe he needs filling out more but technically I cannot see any problems with him at all. Great attitude, high work rate, loves a tackle, two footed and can pass the ball long and short.
I know the step up from reserve football to first team football is massive but if you stuck him in the team in Song’s absence with Denilson/Diaby and Cesc along side him then I find it difficult to see how he would let the team down. Certainly one to keep an eye on in the future.
This is why I love our youth set up.
And with that, I fade into the distance until tomorrow where I will put up the Celtic Match Thoughts & Predictions as well as the usual daily crap.
