we are doing something special dann at arr club, something unique. Well at least in the Premier League. Many remember the great Ajax squad that were brought up together and then sold off to the better clubs in Europe
A very good evening to all you Gooners out there. I hope you are all in good spirits after last night’s victory (Match Thoughts here.) I was a little concerned before the kick off because we were fielding such a young side against the form team of the Championship. That shouldn’t really happen should it. I would love the oh so great Manchester United playing a team full of 17-21 year olds against a decent team and they would get well and truly taken to the cleaners, not altogether sure what the cleaners would do with them (cleaning I guess) but hey, that is the phrase used isn’t it?
I guess my point is that we are doing something special dann at arr club, something unique. Well at least in the Premier League. Many remember the great Ajax squad that were brought up together and then sold off to the better clubs in Europe, well I guess we are doing that without the selling part (I pray)
I still think that many supporters take this for granted and would rather find something to winge about instead of appreciating the hard work and trying to look a little further down the line at the prospect of having a team full of players that have grown up together, practiced together, won together and lost together. Spend all the money you want, you cannot buy that, it is that simple.
It is not as if we do not buy established players along with our youngsters. Nasri, Arshavin and Vermaelen have all come in over the last two seasons and they were not free transfers. They had pretty hefty price tags attached.
One young’n trying to make a name for himself is that of Sanchez Watt, he has been speaking about his future and desire to remain in the spotlight.
“This is one of the times when you have to push on, This is where the youngsters have the chance to show what they can do and you have to take the chance. There are many strikers here, but as long as I show what I can do, that’s the best you can do and there is nothing to worry about.
“As long as you keep doing well and give the manager no choice, he has to play you. I am getting used to it and going with the flow. I was here when Thierry was here, and although I did not get to play with him, I still asked him questions off the pitch when he was free about how it was and stuff like that.
“Thierry said: ‘Be calm in front of goal and when the ball is moving, you don’t have to keep making long runs. Make it short and sharp and just take it from there’.
“There are a lot of players here I have watched like Henry, [Emmanuel] Adebayor, Van Persie, Arshavin – there are many players here I look up to and I even ask questions, they tell me positioning and other things to help me keep learning.”
A good start Mr Watt would be to stop watching people like Adebayor unless of course you want to turn into a complete and utter. treacherous, despicable £$%^&!!!
He must be feeling pretty good right now as he must have noticed that Arsene appears to have taken a shine to the quick forward. Pulling him from his reserve match last week to fly away with the Champions League squad would be a pretty strong indication of how far he has come in the last year.
At the same time he knows that the queue ahead of him is pretty impressive. Carlos Vela showing the extra touch of class needed to make the grade after coming off the bench last night.
Vela is an interesting one. A player obviously brimming with talent and is already playing and scoring for his country but Wenger clearly still has reservations about his overall contribution as he was clearly a fringer (my new word of the day) last season. I would like to know what side of the game our manager feels he needs to improve. One area I would like to see improve, from an armchair perspective of course, is his tendency to play only on his left side. I don’t even mean just shooting or passing but his movement on the ball always tends to turn to his left, somewhat Nigel Winterburn-esque.
I am no Carlos Vela but I have watched football videos of myself when I was 15 and I was astonished by how left footed I was back then, turning so much that I could have left holes in the middle of the pitch. These days although much slower and *ahem* thicker (a better word for fatter) I am a little less predictable.
I would like to see Carlos spend time going both ways (in a football sense of course) and giving himself more options on the pitch. Not that I know that he isn’t doing such improvements. Theo Walcott on occasions seems to have the same problem but the other side (being right footed and all) Maybe the two can sit down over a cuppa coco and swap notes or something.
It will be great to have them both fit for first team, fabulous funky football. With Van Persie and Bendtner playing most of the front line for us this season we have lacked that pace. It changes the way you play and it pushes the opponent further back. Pace is a good, the more of it we can have the better.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water out pops Chamakh with his fin type thing sticking out of his back. I thought it was all over with but nope, the Bordeaux president, is not a happy chappy. He has had enough of our manager talking about his player in public, which I guess is fair enough. It is not a typical Wenger thing to do so I wonder if this is a new Arsenal that we are seeing. Like the Van Persie statement on Arsenal.com and players denying transfer rumours etc.
Certainly things are changing behind the scenes, I do not think this is a coincidence. Mr Gazidis at the back, you look guilty sir.
Anyway he explains what has taken place with the whole will he won’t he sign for Arsenal lark which you can read Here. Sorry, I can’t be bothered to go into it all because.
I don’t care.
So what of Sol Campbell? It certainly is a strange story. Like much of his football life I guess. Did someone knock on Sol Campbell’s door with a contract when he was asleep. You know the very deep sleep so you don’t actually quite know what is going on. He must have signed whilst half dreaming of fluffy pink clouds only to be tucked back into bed by Notts County staff.
Bad jokes aside, surely you think about the pros and cons about a club before signing. Maybe the amount of zeros just took over. Getting playing abroad mixed up with Portsmouth is one thing but this is something else. Get a grip young man.
Anyway, putting this up so late may well have talked me out of a blog tomorrow as most of this will be all over the place come tomorrow morning GMT but I am sure I have some waffle tucked away inside of me.
Adios.
