Kroenke on the verge, Cesc wants Prem & injury update

Peter Hill-Wood has completed a full turn around from the days of not wanting his sort at the club. These days Hill-Wood is backing the Kronk to make a complete takeover

I have finally shook off the International flu that had been going around, if you haven’t had it then you are lucky, I had it for about two weeks.

I started feeling much better yesterday but I must say I feel as right as rain today. The grey clouds have parted and the sun is rising through. Ok, enough waffle for a second, lets get down to the usual daily round up of Arsenal news.

Just as I posted yesterday’s My Vision article I found out that silent Stan Kroenke had increased his shares to 28.9% which takes him to a mere 1% away from being in the position where he has to make a formal bid for Arsenal FC. Unless Alisher Usmanov has something up his sleeve then it looks like the American will be in control of the club we love which I still find a little unsettling.

Much less unsettling than someone who wanted dividends as soon as he got his grubby hands on a few of our shares. I suppose the positive thing is that the Kronk has been on the board for a little while now and has hands on experience in how the club is being run and knows what a strong position it is currently in.

Personally I do not believe that any movement in the board room will affect the playing side as long as there is no interference into Wenger’s running of the team.

Arsene Wenger believes that the club needs to continue to live within its means regardless of who has control of the club.

Wenger said:

“As long as the club can be run as it is at the moment, it doesn’t really matter, Certainly at some stage, someone will get the majority of the shares. Once somebody reaches 29.9 per cent of the shareholding, they have to make a bid for the club.

“Then he could gain over 50 per cent, and he will be the decider of the club, but he could still decide that the club should continue to run how it is now. What I find dangerous for English football is that most of the clubs are not managing to live within their own resources,”

“We have the example of Portsmouth. They need the owner to be a multi-billionaire just so they can pay the salaries. That cannot be right. If the owner has to put his own money into the club just so it can live and survive, that is super-dangerous.

“I know at our club we have foreign owners who are billionaires, but it has no interference with the day-to-day management and running of the club. If one man controls the club, fine, but as long as the club lives within its own resources.

“It cannot rely or depend on one person.”

Something certainly must change regarding the way many clubs are being run at present. How can it be right that reckless spending results in a billionaire to come in and bail the club out and then in turn give the club a financial advantage, even if that advantage is short term. West Ham being the perfect example of that short term advantage. It wasn’t long ago when West Ham were buying every Tom, Dick and Harry to push them into a European place and now they are struggling to gather enough pennies together to keep the club running.

Peter Hill-Wood has completed a full turn around from the days of not wanting his sort at the club. These days Hill-Wood is backing the Kronk to make a complete takeover.

Hill-Wood said:

“It does look like he is edging towards a takeover, which I would welcome, I have not asked him if that is what he plans to do, but I am very relaxed about it. If it was to happen, I don’t think you can expect any big changes because he seems to like things very much the way they are.”

Moving away from the boardroom stuff and back onto the pitch because a) my boardroom knowledge is pretty limited and b) the talking is done on the pitch as one legend enjoyed saying.

Cesc Fabregas is desperate to win the Premier League and claims it is the most difficult league of them all to win.

Cesc said:

“I’ve realised with every year how big the Premier League is. Growing up it’s about Champions League and World Cups. But, once you come to play here, you realise how the fans live for the Premier League.

“The league is really competitive and I like it a lot. I think in England the Premier League is the biggest thing. All the top teams in Europe want to win their own league but the English is the hardest to win. I want to win it even more now than when I first arrived.”

As much as I want Arsenal to win the Champions League for the first time, there is nothing better than being top of the tree come the end of the season. You know that you do not have to be the best in Europe to win the Champions League but there can be little doubt that you were the very best in your league if you end up as champions.

If the team can continue to work hard and give their all this season then Cesc could get his wish come the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Gael Clichy and Abou Diaby have both picked up ankle injuries although Diaby’s injury is not supposed to be very serious. It could well mean a start for Kieran Gibbs at left back against the Brum.

Sol Campbell is back training at Arsenal. Shouldn’t he be running around training at Notts County? Ah well I hope our players get to nutmeg him on a regular basis.

There are many bits and pieces floating around but my time is up so I will have to cut this short. I shall have a match thoughts and predictions up tomorrow. Hurray, footie is back!

Enjoy your Friday.

Back tomorrow.
