It hasn’t yet sunk in with me that we will be without the Gooners for two weeks. It feels like the players have just got back from the bout of pointless matches
Regular readers of this site will know that I have a slight dislike for most pundits, on the whole I think they are sheep who all follow each other, many of them never have anything new to say, any forward thinking or any real insight into clubs and teams that they are being paid to write about. Well I shall put my hands up and admit I was incorrect in one instant.
The good old scouser Phil Thompson bullishly came out at the start of the season and stated that it was no longer the big four but the big three. Wow, well done Thomo. he seemed to know that Liverpool would shoot themselves in the foot so early and he also knew that Wenger had built an amazing attacking force. Well done Phillip.
So Liverpool gain a home draw against Birmingham with an outrageous dive from David N’Gog I wonder if he will get the Eduardo treatment from the media and supporters all around the country. I don’t mean to poke fun out of Liverpool’s slump but you know it is a bad time when you have to throw on a half fit Gerrard to rescue a point.
Once again it just shows how fine a line you have in football, this time last season Liverpool had only lost one game. Arsenal who couldn’t string a run of consistent performances together already suffered three defeats and were soon to encounter another to Aston Villa at the Emirates. Liverpool had only lost Alonso whilst Arsenal are one man down in squad depth.
The moral of my little story is that one inconsistent season does not mean that you have no quality or need 6 changes like I read on certain other blogs.
Wow, it really is international week isn’t it, I have spent far too much article space on another club. It hasn’t yet sunk in with me that we will be without the Gooners for two weeks. It feels like the players have just got back from the bout of pointless matches. The thing is, most of these games are actually pointless. Most of our players will be involved in blinking friendlies and that is pure annoying.
Arsene clearly would rather the break didn’t interrupt a good spell for the team.
Wenger said:
“In November, you have decisive games in the Champions League and the players go on international duty and that is the first period where injuries kick in, Now we have an international break and they all fly away so lets hope they all fly back in good shape. Traditionally, November has not been a good month for us, but I explain that by the fact we have had more injuries then. It depends on the fixtures too – you can have two or three difficult games in November.
“We go now to Sunderland and that is a difficult place to go. But I feel we have learned a lot because many of the players who played two years ago are in the squad today.
“I believe something that is very important is that we have built the team together for a few years. Players arrived at the age of 16 and so I enjoy it more because you are not allowed to do that any more in the modern game. That’s why I am really happy when we play as a real team.”
This season would be as good a time to correct the dreaded November month as any. I really do have a horrible little feeling about the Sunderland game, I would go as far as to say that it is a trickier game than the following Premier League against the Chavs.
Something about international week then going away from home to a side that have so far played Manchester United off the park at Old Trafford, beaten Liverpool and unluckily lost to Tottenham after doing enough to win twice against them.
Hopefully my fear is misplaced and the boys will once again prove how far they have come.
Bad news for the squad and Nicklas Bendtner, it seems that the Dane will have to undergo groin surgery which is a shame as he was playing well. The last thing we need is for it to become a longer term problem so getting it sorted out now while we have many able replacements might be the correct thing.
ok, well I would write more but my stomach is pleading with me to stop. Who am I to deny such a good deed.
Back again tomorrow, I’m sure.
