Henry debate continues..yawn, Bruce talks up Gooners

It does give us a chance to rest Alex Song from now on though, the poor guy has been run into the ground. Song has been extremely consistent this season and has hardly put a foot wrong

ok, ok, I am somewhat bored of this ‘Henry is the most evil man on the planet ever’ campaign that is currently going on. Everywhere I turn. Every sports newspaper, site, radio station, tv channel are all going way over the top about it. The amount of times Gerrard, Rooney and Michael Owen have cheated to gain an advantage for their clubs or country and hardly a word is spoken.

Arsene Wenger has had his opinion on the matter and agrees that the goal should not have been given.

Wenger said:

“I am not content because France shouldn’t gain qualification with these things. All the stadium has seen the handball, but the referee hasn’t. This isn’t the French way and football should learn from this

“I have spoken to Titi [Henry] after the game and he knows it was not correct but it is up to the referee also to stop the play.

“We qualified because of a referee’s mistake, the strength of a wrist and also the clumsiness of the Irish in front of their goal. We would have preferred to qualify in a different manner.”

Anyway, I shall leave that where it is, I no longer want to associate myself with it. But I do have a question. How often does our manager speak with former players? Poor old Annie, her husband spends all day thinking and working football and when he comes home, he says ‘hiya love just popping upstairs to give Paddy a quick call, down in a little while’

Only joking of course, but what it does show is that Arsene is more than a manager to his players, he is a mentor, a friend and as many players have said in the past, a father figure. You cannot imagine many managers having the same relationship as our manager.

Onto more important topics, some of our boys are back and ready to play some footy. Denilson, Traore and Fabianski are fit again after being sidelined, but I do not imagine them coming straight into the team from the start. Denilson would have the most chance but I wonder if Wenger would throw him in considering the lack of match sharpness he has had. I mean two months is a long time without football. It does give us a chance to rest Alex Song from now on though, the poor guy has been run into the ground. Song has been extremely consistent this season and has hardly put a foot wrong, but like the rest of the players, he will need the occasional sit out to rest his legs.

Steve Bruce has been saying some very nice things about Arsene Wenger, Bruce obvious an intelligent chap knows a good thing when he see’s it.

Bruce said:

“I get on well with Arsene and, of all the managers, he’s probably helped me the most,”

“He helped me get promoted with Birmingham by giving me three players on loan in one season – Nicklas Bendtner, Fabrice Muamba and Sebastian Larsson – and I’ll always be grateful for that. They were arguably my three best players that season, so they had a massive influence on getting the club up.

“Arsenal are an exceptionally young, gifted team and the fella in charge is bordering on a genius. He’s produced team after team, sold player after player and yet always managed to find other players to take their place. He’s quite an incredible manager and, with his current crop of players, the future looks very, very healthy indeed for Arsenal.

“He’s got to be up there with the greats because of how his teams play and the way he keeps on producing players and teams.”

It is a shame that many Gooners and bloggers do not appreciate our manager the way that many on the outside do. I hope Bruce and his team can have a good season this term, obviously apart from the games against us. I was very impressed with how they played at Old Trafford, they were the best team on the day and deserved to win the game. They will pass the ball and look to create chances so it should be an interesting game.

Right I must go, back tomorrow.
