It has been a few days since I have last been able to complete a full blog. Usually I have far too much to say even if much of it is just waffle but the last few days have been a bit flat for me. I have found it depressing looking at the news feeds and seeing transfer rumours. It is still April, why do I have to take notice of stories created by a journalist in a pub in Yorkshire?
No we are not buying Joe Hart! Pepe Reina is never going to be a realistic option and Subotic is one of the latest names used by fans around the country or even the world. He joins Cana, Veloso, Gomes, Mertesacker, Hangeland on the list of must have’s even if some have never watched 90 minutes of these players.
I have read that Arsene has £18 million to use in the transfer market this summer. The truth is that the only people who know how much the manager has to spend is Arsene Wenger, Ivan Gazidis and the board.
Arsene would already know which areas he would like to strengthen in and he would already have a list of players that he admires and likes. From that list, he would already know which players will and will not be available and then he may have an indication of whether said player would be affordable.
Transfering players from one club to another takes a long time at Arsenal. We are not a club who are sent video clips from player’s agents and then Wenger goes and buys the player based on that video clip. We normally watch players for a long period of time before enquires about that players character and personality are made.
Don’t get me wrong, I am looking forward to new faces coming through the door. I want to see Chamakh in his Arsenal training kit during our first training session. I want to see player x and perhaps even player y joining him but instead of made up stories I would rather wait until real life kicks in, if that is ok.
Apart from that not much is a gwarning. Andrey Arshavin has had his usual 4 weekly quotes in the press that have been ‘twisted’ It amazes me how many times I have had to say that. Why do I not hear these stories from Rosicky, Eduardo etc?
Ole Gunner hit the nail firmly on the head via twitter when he compared Arshavin to Adebayor. Both players have one good season (half for Arshavin) both players having quotes about other teams in the media, both players appearing not to be giving their all on the pitch. Yet one was viewed as death itself while one of them is viewed as a hero.
I am not going to react to his comments because quite frankly I have not read any transcripts, without that information, the rest is as good as random sentences. Unfortunately media outlets do not do what it says on the tin, i.e. give you news they infact they only want to sell copies or gain clicks but what I am going to go by is effort and commitment. Arshavin may be able to swivel and fire the ball into the corner from 25 yards now and again buy Tomas Rosicky will chase back and win the ball back much more often than Arshavin’s shots reaching the back of the net and to me that is what is important.
The ironic thing is that Barcelona let go of Ronaldinho because they wanted a team who worked together offensively and defensively as a team. I suggest that Andrey goes into the new season giving his all when we are in or without possession then maybe he can get his dream move.
I was speaking about not wanting to have to deal with transfer tittle-tattle but what I do enjoy is listening to some good old transfer facts. Arsene Wenger has already identified his targets and has already spoken to those players.
Wenger said:
“I have definite transfer targets and I have been talking to people but I will not tell you to who, I believe the earlier you settle your team the better it is and the less anxiety you have.”
“unless there is an exception there that nobody knew before. Also post-World Cup the prices are always artificial. Overall I feel it is very dangerous to buy on [the strength of] the tournament because sometimes there are players who are fresh and have not played the whole season. Everyone can have three weeks of glory as a football player. Ten years is a bit different.”
The key words are ‘definite targets’ which could indicate that Arsene may well be looking at more than one player. We know that Chamakh is probably one of those players that Arsene had in mind when making that statement.
We bought Tomas Rosicky very quickly before the European Championships and this could be the case again this time round.
It is important to have those players during the pre season, during the Emirates cup. New players need time to form relationships, partnerships and understanding. Especially if the targets are goalkeepers or defenders.
Sol Campbell has reiterated Wenger’s comments about an end of season conversation regarding the experienced defender’s future. With William Gallas and Mikel Silvestre looking likely to be heading out of door, Arsene will want to keep some form on stability in the defence, not only that but Campbell’s obvious infectious character has been a big plus since January.
Before I disappear for another day, I would like to know if any like minded Gooners out there are interested in writing for Arsenal Vision. If so just contact me.
Back again tomorrow.
