Are Gooners supposed to hope for or demand success?

Supporting a club should not be about demands. Burnley fans who have paid for their season tickets before the season started would have hoped that they could survive in England’s top tier, they couldn’t have demanded survival.

After the defeats to Tottenham and then Wigan, the remaining fixtures pretty much turned into non events. Tottenham’s victory at Middle Eastlands a couple of nights ago has now turned our game against Fulham into a very important game. Defeat to the Europa finalists coupled with a Spurs away win at Burnley would mean the unthinkable, Tottenham finishing above us for the first time since 1835 or something and that just cannot happen, no way, no how.

Before the Spuds v City clash, I was hoping that Tottenham were the side to claim the last Champions League spot, I would have to endure some rather horrific comments from the sprinkling of Spuds fans that I know of but for our clubs short term future it may be the best option as holding off City as long as possible can potentially give us a head start but watching the Tottenham players and supporters jumping around at the full time whistle I must admit I felt somewhat sick and a little frustrated. Frustrated that in our big games this season we haven’t been able to do it when it really mattered. Obviously fighting for fourth place at the end of the season is where Spurs fans wanted to be and have dreamed of since the start of the season whilst for us it would be a rather poor season by our standards to only compete for, standards that Arsene Wenger has got us to and let us not forget that before we bite that hand that has fed us so well in the past.

However this is not to say that everything is Hunky-dory because quite clearly it isn’t. It has been very frustrating watching our team fighting for the league title a few weeks ago to battling to stay third. We have utterly caved in and Wenger will have to ask himself why this has taken place. It would be foolish not to take our injuries into consideration, I doubt there is a team in the football league with the same amount of injuries that we have at present and that obviously isn’t the norm but at the same time we have to look at the players who have come in and say that the level has not been high enough.

There has been plenty of spitting and foot stamping going around from Arsenal fans around the country as the team have fallen away at the final stretch. Ironically many of frothing are the same fans who predicted that we would finish outside of the Champions League spot this season but I do not expect to see anyone praising the team for doing better than their early expectations.

I have been labelled as unambitious for praising the club’s strategy and the rebuilding of the future, I find that somewhat ridiculous. The difference is I hope we can do well each season, I hope we can win the league, I hope we can compete in the Champions League and one day win the trophy. I do not demand. That to me is the difference.

Supporting a club should not be about demands. Burnley fans who have paid for their season tickets before the season started would have hoped that they could survive in England’s top tier, they couldn’t have demanded survival. Supporters of Yeovil town should not be demanding a Champions League spot, they should be supporting their players and manager to do the best they can.

One thing that gets my goat is the saying ‘I pay the players wages so….’

That is a false statement. We do not pay the players wages, we do not pay the managers wages. We pay Arsenal Football Club and we pay Arsenal Football Club because we choose to do so. Paying Arsenal for tickets, shirts, or Arsenal TV online is not a tax. We make that decision ourselves. If we do not want to pay then we can use our money elsewhere. If you are a supporter that demand trophies or FA Cups then you may need to reacess your connection to Arsenal Football club.

I have to agree with Arseblog’s view earlier today about certain sections of ‘support’ claiming that they would be happy if Tottenham finished above us. Quite frankly I have my doubts as to whether some of these blogs are actually run by Arsenal supporters but if you are a Gooner and that is your view then I personally think you have some serious problems that need addressing.

Luckily I do not see us losing at home to Fulham who will have more than an eye on their midweek final and are likely to rest some key individuals. Now if we were away to Stoke then I would have to keep a spare pair of boxers shorts close at hand.

Unfortunetly we do not have many players available, we are well and truly at the barest of bare bones. One bone that is likely to return is that of Gael Clichy, along with the starting Arshavin and Van Persie means that we SHOULD have too much for Fulham but looking back at our record since Camp Nou, anything is possible.

Like many of the players I guess, I am already looking ahead to next season. *Insert daily Chamakh to Arsenal talk*

I currently have no real feeling for the world cup, although I am sure I will get more and more into it as the season finishes. Hopefully we can bring in a face or two who will be featuring in the World cup which will bring out the usual recordings or certain games and then plenty of fast forwarding and rewinding.

That is the part about transfers that excite me not all the daily links to players every couple of minutes. I don’t know why but it drives me insane. The funny thing is I used to love all that in my younger years.

Arsene has had his press conference cancelled due to a sore throat which is a shame, he always give us something interesting to read into but hey, such is life.

Back again tomorrow.
