A collection of players with the potential of reaching world class if a few variables are met. Many will filter through the net and make careers for themselves elsewhere but the special players are at the right club at the right time
Good afternoon Gooners,
Feeling a little worse for wear today, a mixture of playing footy last night and a lack of sleep has put my body into melt down. I remember my early teenage years, during the summer holidays we used to spend most of the day at the football pitch, popping home for a bit of dinner then back out to play three and in or sixty seconds. Come back in when it was too dark to play anymore but still having plenty in the tank for another few hours of running around at least. Almost 20 years later, one hour on a Tuesday is enough to make me ache the next day. *sigh*
Luckily the Arsenal young guns do not seem to be suffering from the same problem as they continue to impress. The reserve/youth group dismantled poor ol Boreham Wood last night. The score finished at 3-0 but apparently it could and perhaps should have been double that. Many Gooners have been waiting rather impatiently (including myself) to take a look at young Brazilian Wellington Da Silva who will be signing for us in January. He has been training with us for the last few weeks I gather and took his place amongst the substitutes. Japanese trialist Rio Miyaichi started the game and made a positive impact apparently.
Judging by his video below, the kid is not short on ability. And after having seen 2.25 of the video it is not hard to notice who he has based his game on.
Ability, tricks and flair is not enough at Arsenal, ask Quincy Owusu-Abeyie. Attitude, hard work and desire will be needed for any of these young talents to stand a chance of making the grade at Arsenal especially with such strong competition at the same level.
I know many have differing opinions on our strategy developing young players and aiming for the future but I really see our club dominating football for a long time if we remain the same. Our current team obviously need tweaks and reinforcements but when you stand on your tip toes and look a little further behind I just see a sea of talent in the distance. A collection of players with the potential of reaching world class if a few variables are met. Many will filter through the net and make careers for themselves elsewhere but the special players are at the right club at the right time.
While the pundits, journalists and opposition fans have been ridiculing Wenger for not spending and winning a trophy in the last few seasons, I can imagine those exact people lauding Wenger for having the foresight to embark on such a journey. I just cannot see how we can fail going down this route. Once we do shake the proverbial monkey off our backs and start finishing first then I can see a run of success, many will argue the opposite and that is fine. It is all conjecture in August 2010, we do not know what is around the corner.
Back to last night’s game, Wellington came off the bench and stole the show apparently. Short, stocky, speedy and full of tricks. It will be an interesting few years for him. Apparently he is still very very raw and has plenty to learn so I would be surprised to see any first team action for a while yet.
Coming back from the future to 2010, the search for the center half continues. Werder Bremen have thrown their arms in front of Per Mertesacker and are shouting ‘not for sale, not for sale!’
Werder manager Klaus Allofs said:
“Per remains 100 percent committed to Werder, I have already said this several times. Nothing has changed. Per and his advisers have so far not commented due to a request from us.”
Well that is that then. I am not so sure that we were interested in the first place but you never know. One player who certainly is not keeping himself quiet is Montpellier defender Emir Spahic.
Spahic said:
“The most important thing is that so far the negotiations go as planned and that the transfer could be completed soon, Arsenal is a great club, I’m an admirer of Arsene Wenger and I hope that Montpellier will cooperate.”
Well he sounds pretty confident that something is going on. It sounds a bit more than a ‘I like Arsenal and Wenger, look at me! I want a better contract to stay’
Sounds more like a ‘Let me join the Gunners before I do some Chuck Norris on your Arsenal!’
According to DarrenArsenal on twitter we have made an offer of around £7.5 million and it is close to being accepted for the Bosnian. He is 29 years of age so would bring plenty of experience to the table. Judging by the best scouting tool in the world *tongue firmly in cheek* Youtube, he looks very mobile and would have little problem with our passing game.
For those who haven’t seen the ball playing, tough center back then here is a video for you. Or if you just feel like dancing then just press play because this would cater for you.
And lastly a defender who is actually at our club, Laurent Koscielny is ready to add some muscle to his frame and learn the English language in order to succeed in English football.
He looks like a competitive player who wouldn’t shy away from the physical game but in appearance he looks like he could do with a bit more power. This is not going to happen overnight so we may have to wait until next season before we witness the new Hulk version. What is more important will be adapting to the pace of the game and settling into a new country. The rest will follow.
Back tomorrow.
