Gooners make England more interesting again / Poor O’Neill should step into Arsene’s shoes

Poor old Martin O’Neill has left Aston Villa in the lurch because he wasn’t given the funds needed to compete against the big boys in the league. I am look at it from O’Neills point of view

For the first time in a while I can look forward to an England game with some interest. Three Gooners will be involved in the squad in the game today, hopefully we can see all three of Walcott, Gibbs and Wilshere on the pitch at the same time. I am intrigued to know how Rooney and Wilshere link up around the penalty area.

Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard and the other robots were just dull and bland at the world cup. It will be nice to see a player with a bit of imagination from the center of midfield. Having said this, a massive performance from Wilshere or Gibbs could see the hype shoot up and that is the last thing those players need. Wilshere has already had enough hype around him, especially after last seasons Emirates cup. I have been guilty of that myself but those players need to get their head down, keep working to iron out their flaws. The flaws being Wilshere’s tendency to keep the ball for too long in the wrong areas and Gibbs’ positional play from full back at times. These issues will be improved with experience along with hard work.

We are already hearing talk of those players needing to leave Arsenal to progress which is a load of rubbish, that is quite the opposite of what is needed. They need to keep learning and to realise that they are not the finished product yet, regardless of what a sensationalist red top is saying to sell newspapers.

I do want Theo Walcott to shine today though, he is further down the road than Wilshere and Gibbs. He is showing signs and glimpses of brilliance followed by an incorrect decision or misplaced pass. It is a big season for Walcott and a good start for him is just what he needs. Walcott may not be as naturally gifted as Wilshere but his movement, speed and finishing could make him one of the most potent weapons in the Premier league this season.

Poor old Martin O’Neill has left Aston Villa in the lurch because he wasn’t given the funds needed to compete against the big boys in the league. I am look at it from O’Neills point of view, he has a team who work for each other, fight for the cause and have managed to get a Europa league place. Fantastic. All he needs is a fat cash injection so he can pick up some more over inflated priced Englishmen to take Aston Villa into the promise land of the Champions League.

Let us get out of Martin O’Neill land for a second and take a look at reality. Since arriving in 2006 Martin O’Neill and Aston Villa have spent £80.8 million NET. It has taken Martin O’Neill over £80 million to get Villa into the Europa league, does he want the same amount again to compete with Manchester City? But when times are difficult financially and he doesn’t get what he wants, whether that be all of the James Milner money or whatever the problem is. He throws his dummy out of the pram and storms off in a huff a few days before the start of the season.

Try stepping into Arsene Wenger’s shoes you little jumped up twerp. Wenger has had his hands tied since we moved into the Emirates stadium yet still managed to play football that his teams could only dream of and we continue to finish higher than his side every single season.

Just to make this clear, while Martin O’Neill has spent over £80 million on trying to rebuild his team, Arsene Wenger has made a profit of £30.1 million by developing players.

While the balance sheet is not the interest of many supporters, we need to remember that we are not in such a bad position given the circumstances. Given the amount that we were able to spend in recent years we should be in mid table. Hopefully the club are in a much better position financially which should allow the club to push on and compete in the transfer market for the foreseeable future.

My aggression towards Martin O’Neill is because of THIS, especially after the story was twisted by the press.

Anyway, have to cut it short today and miss out a whole host of news updates, perhaps I will update later if I get the chance.

Enjoy your Wednesday.
