Jack’s DNA, Szczesny’s Diarra bug & Nasri evades Fart

No matter how good a player may think he is, no player is bigger than the manager or the club. No matter what you may think of Lukasz Fabianski, he is older and has waited longer for his chance and now he has games under his belt, he has deserved his starting place.

Jack Wilshere has signed a new contract at the Gunners and it will be music to ears of all the coaching staff at Arsenal who have played their part in developing one of the most promising kids in the country into a Premier League quality player. You can be sure that the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and the Mancs had been hiding in the bushes, whispering for Jack to walk over their way as they would be fully aware of Jack’s contract situation. Instead he has jumped into the red Arsenal parked car on the side and has driven off into the distance.

It is pretty nice that Jack has Arsenal DNA, this is the advantage of bringing through English players like erm Ashley Cole. Or perhaps even David Bentley. Ok, maybe it doesn’t actually make much difference but you do get the sense that Jack Wilshere will be at Arsenal for a very long time if the club continues to make the huge strides that it has made of late.

I think Jack is coming through just at the right time, Arsene has rebuilt the club with a long term strategy, and Jack is young enough to take advantage of all the hard work that has been put in place.

Meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny (still very much copying and pasting) is not so keen to jump into the Arsenal car that has been parked especially for him. He seems to have caught the Diarra bug that was lying around London Colny. The confident Polish stopper is fed up of watching from the sidelines and wants to play games. It is all well and good having self belief but at 19 he needs to remember that most goalkeeping careers do not start until their mid twenties.

I suppose the question is, does Szczesny want the number one shirt now or leave or is he waiting for assurances that he will be number two. If he is demanding the number one shirt then we may as well just release him into the wild. No matter how good a player may think he is, no player is bigger than the manager or the club. No matter what you may think of Lukasz Fabianski, he is older and has waited longer for his chance and now he has games under his belt, he has deserved his starting place.

Szczesny is a fabulous talent who is destined to be a top top keeper, so hopefully Arsene can convince him to remain patient and that Arsenal is the right place for him to be.

We are back in the Champions League tomorrow, we fly out to face Shakhtar Donetsk, and we will be without Cesc Fabregas which is of no real surprise after he pulled his hamstring against West Ham over the weekend. Alex Song is also a doubt for the game. It is a shame that we do not have automatic qualification as it would allow Arsene to make wholesale changes, as it is, I would imagine that Arsene will still play a strong team to try and qualify as soon as possible. I think it will be a totally different game from the one at the Emirates. More on that tomorrow.

Hard luck for Mark Randall who broke his collar bone on his debut for his new loan club Rotherham. He only lasted twenty minutes. With injury luck like that, he could well have a future at Arsenal after all. In better news, Samir Nasri has won the ESPN PFA fans player of the month award and rightly so. Tevez and Van der Fart were left behind by the mercurial Frenchman. Long may his form continue.

Benik Afobe has joined Huddersfield on loan until January which is great news for the 17 year old. It is a great chance for him to get some good level football under his belt. I hope he can get games and score some goals. At least it is another Arsenal player for us to look out for.

Right, gotta run.

Back tomorrow.
