Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, it is not. A bobbling, floating Alisher Usmanov has been spotted zig zagging looking for shares to attack.
He had been so quiet of late that I had almost forgotten about his grubby hands clinging onto the shirt tales of our club. Apparently he is looking to acquire enough shares to take his shares to 29.9% in an attempt to upgrade to a blocking stake.
So much work has gone on in the last few years to get the club to the level it is today, it is quite frightening that someone with the wrong intentions can just come along, force their way in and drain cash out of it. Obviously it will not be as straight forward as that with the current board in control. The tug of war continues I guess.
I am not usually one for getting too involved in transfer speculation, unless something is likely to actually happen but the news of Christopher Samba wanting out of Blackburn Rovers is certainly something I would find quite interesting if I was in charge of player acquisition at Arsenal.
26 years of age, powerful both on the floor and in the air and also a leader, well I assume he is a leader as he is the current club captain. He certainly is an intimidating presence on the pitch for the opposition. Having said that, I do not see how Arsene would be able to keep five center backs happy at the same time, especially as a partnership needs to be formed and developed and the best way for that to happen is for two players to keep playing together without much rotation.
I would certainly feel pretty content going up against the likes of Didier Drogba, Jason Roberts and all the rest of the throw your weight around strikers who ply their trade in the Premier League. I suppose a central defender would only be a consideration to Wenger if one of our current center backs were struck down with a lengthy injury before the window closes. No doubt the Spuds will be sniffing around him. They seem to be interested in anything that moves at the moment.
Oooh some actual news to speak of has just come through in my ear piece.. err, hold on. News just in that Abou Diaby and Lukasz Fabianski will be fit and available to be in the squad against Chelsea on Monday. The snow may have scuppered Wojciech Szczesny’s chances to gain another first team appearance as Fabianski was a doubt against Stoke but the extra few days may mean that Fabianski will get his place back in the first team.
Arsene also said that Thomas Vermaelen is back in training but will need to build up his fitness which can take 3-4 weeks. Who said we need Samba? We got Tommy V!
Whoever said, football fans were fickle?
Back tomorrow (if there is blinking anything to talk about)
