Podolski / Injury Fear / Bendtner / Ryo

I have spent far too long talking about something that hasn’t happened so I just want to cross my fingers and hope that all the Arsenal boys return to the club in good health and without wanting to ask for too much, I wouldn’t mind if our rivals were to suffer from a few set back. International football day today and I must say, I am not at all looking forward to it. I cannot quite put my finger on why that is. We have had plenty of this international football lark to deal with this season and for the most part I have been pretty calm and relaxed, crossing my fingers a little. This time I am a little concerned. I tend to go with my gut feeling even if that gut feeling has been proved to be nothing but just that.

I hope that is the case today, worrying unnecessarily but I think the combination of the joy of watching a relatively fit squad dismantle the ‘power shifters’ and a very important run in makes me fear that the footballing gods will shove a spanner in our Arsenaly works.

I have spent far too long talking about something that hasn’t happened so I just want to cross my fingers and hope that all the Arsenal boys return to the club in good health and without wanting to ask for too much, I wouldn’t mind if our rivals were to suffer from a few set backs. Only because I believe desperately in equal opportunities. We have had more than our fair share of injuries so it would only be fair to share the love around those who are fighting for Champions League places. That said, I would happily take van Persie and the rest of the Arsenal players ready to take on Liverpool on the weekend.

After the 5-2 THRASHING! I have been thinking about the intensity that we put into that game and was looking forward to watching it again this weekend but come to think of it, I cannot see us repeating that after the players having to recover from that game, fly and play with their countries and then reproduce the same physical levels that HUMILATED Spurs.

There is something quite wonderful about watching your team hustle and fight for possession as we did on the day that we SPANKED Tottenham. If Arsene is still in the process of rebuilding our squad then I would certainly advocate signing players who have that characteristic built into them. I wish there was another space for Francis Coquelin, another player who chases lost causes and loves a tackle. Currently we do not have any midfield spots open for Le Coq but with continued hard work, I think he will get his chance somewhere at some point in the future.

In my blog yesterday I spoke about Lukas Podolski and how I do not totally understand any potential signing. Not because he isn’t better than what we already have, a certain Dutchman apart but where would he fit into our system?

Basically he is a quality center forward who is a full German international and can score goals at the highest level. He is not better than Robin van Persie and Arsene Wenger is unlikely to revert back to playing with two central strikers. Are we agreed on that?

A super back up striker who would be a great option from the bench, you could even rotate him now and again to keep van Persie fresh. That would be the ideal scenario but why would an international forward come to Arsenal after a flying season to sit on the bench at Arsenal? Makes no sense or shows a lack of ambition.

Ok, what about his ability to play wide? Sounds great but is he an Arsenal wide player? He is neither the Yossi Benayoun or Tomas Rosicky type wide forward, someone who can tuck in and contribute to possession and creativity. And is he really much of a Gervinho, Walcott and Chamberlain? Quick, dribblers who can get in behind. I am not sure that is he but I could be corrected as I am not a regular follower of German football. I am not saying that I do not want the player at Arsenal or that it is a bad move, simply that I do not understand the full thinking behind it. If anyone has the answer then please share below.

There seems to be plenty of smoke so a fire in the summer wouldn’t be much of a surprise. But as I said last night, this is all pretty irrelevant as the immediate focus is not of wheeling and dealing but focusing on the players we have now that can take part in the upcoming games.

Nicklas Bendtner has hinted that his future may well be in Russia it certainly does not seem to be in England that’s for sure. For a player that was so frustrated not to be playing regularly in his natural position he really hasn’t busted a gut to prove a point has he? A striker who is clearly capable of scoring goals at the highest level has shot himself in the foot this season with his off field antics as well as his form.

Compare the impact of Bendtner to someone like the humble Ryo Miyachi who in his first month has been voted player of the month. A selfless player who gives his all and who knows that he has plenty to learn as well as his huge talent. I am excited about Ryo and it now makes me look forward to Bolton games. Strange ey?

Anyway, that is it for today.

Back with a blog tomorrow to inform you about an injury free set of matches.
