The Arsenal Resurgence

We went into the Liverpool game on the high, Liverpool on the other hand were coming into the game at the back of the Carling Cup success so the battle line was drawn out at Anfield. This was actually the game I felt we would drop points but the reverse was the case, we fell behind from a Koscielny’s own goal, had our backs on the wall but still we dug deep, equalised and at the death pulled out a goal. The fighting spirit is there for all to see, we haven’t shown this fantastic

Well, Well, Well, The mood at The Arsenal has definitely changed. 4 straight wins have erased the bad start to the year where we lost games against Fulham, Swansea and UTD – All games we could have gone on to win.

Before the start of this 4 games run which we went on to collect 12pts, I had a discussion with some friends on twitter, I suggested that 10pts from 12 would be wonderful and very difficult to achieve. The manager and lads had other ideas and achieved a feat far from my thinking.

The Arsenal resurgence started on February 4th when we faced Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates and spanked them 7-1, the media especially played down the result sighting we played a side struggling at the foot of the log in our home ground.

Whilst I agree it was only Blackburn, we can’t take away the hunger in which we played with. The pace of our passing went up a notch.  Arteta, Song and Rosicky stood out in midfield and bossed the game from start to finish. Theo and Oxlade-Chamberlain ran their full backs ragged and RvP’s caused problems with his movement to draw their CBs out of position.

That game in question showed Wenger the level at which we could play at, we also had our full backs nearing full fitness. So our balance and shape returned at the best time possible.

We went into the Sunderland game with confidence but against a Martin O’Niel side it was going to be a big fight which we showed by coming from behind and claiming a win right at the death. King Henry showed us the way and till this day we have gone on to claim 3 pts twice at the death.

The game against Spurs showed the height at which we can reach, we were written off before we took to the field, Spurs were on the high with their breath *cough* taking *cough* football. They started with a bang, scored from their very 1st attack, added the 2nd mid way into the 1st half and talk of ‘I told you so’ resonated all over twitter from fans, media men and rival fans.

We started the game with a balanced formation, Rosicky kept his place, Benayoun picked ahead of Ox, Vermaelen moved to CB, Gibbs brought in at left back,  and Sagna at right back. A 4-2-3-1 formation was the other of the day – we bossed the game and deservedly came out victors reducing the likes of Bale, Modric and Parker to nothing.

The midfield was were the battle was won, Arteta and Song anchoring, Rosicky probing and Benayoun coming in-field to add numbers.

I questioned the inclusion of Benayoun ahead of Ox when the starting 11 was announced but after the game I realised what Wenger had in plan. IMO that should be the way we should  set out to play. We are defensively sound, battle in midfield should be in our favour + we have got the pace of Walcott to pull clear and of course the movement of RvP.

The fighting spirit is there for all to see, we haven’t shown this fantastic attitude for as long as I can remember.

Newcastle came calling, another tricky fixture was on the cards. We were playing against a side fighting for a top 4 finish, a side that consists of Ba, who has been a revelation for them scoring 16 goals and 3rd on the list of top scorers. They also have the likes of Tiote, Cabaye, Colocini and Tim Krul. They all have pulled their weight and pushed their side to 6th on the table.

We fell behind through the brilliance of Ben Arfa and got the game back on level terms immediately. Theo the creator, RvP the finisher. We probed and probed, pushed Newcastle’s backline back but still the goal wasn’t forthcoming – The all important goal came in the 95th min through Theo’s cross, RvP’s touch and Vermaelen’s sheer determination to get into the box and help out.

All in all, 12pts was gained, propelled us to 4th spot and a point behind the mighty Spurs. Who would have thought, eh ?

Our players have a new found FIGHT and believe in their own abilities. The return of our full backs also, have sparked this attitude. Theo is playing with precision largely because of Sagna behind him. Rosicky also playing like a man possessed, long may it continue.

Our next round of fixtures includes Everton, Villa, QPR, City and Wolves. A possible 15pts on the cards but 1st things 1st – A break from the Nerves that comes with supporting The Arsenal. FA cup weekend is here, we can ALL relax.

Till next I get the time to stumble upon words, remain blessed.
