Walcott could very well end up playing CF which would give us the boost we need. He is sure to give Ferdinand and Evans a headache while at the same time we have our defensive liabilities (and everyone say it together) Andre Santos. If we can some how contain RVP, Rooney, Valencia. . . okay so if we can basically contain everybody while effectively attacking. key word the is EFFECTIVELY we

This Saturday could possibly be the greatest test for the gunners. having lost 8-2 on our first encounter last season and now they have our left footed talisman I just don’t know how we plan on emerging victorious from this one. Gervinho is injured and for me that’s not terrible because the lil Russian guy is getting back to his defence dismantling days. The Prodigal son will return and rightfully so because he is getting paid to play and score goals or at the very least just get the ball into the middle. Yes we do have Jack and that’s a boost in the mid but he is not our savior ( Please do not deeply gasp at what seems to be football blasphemy ). As amazing as he is the boy has glass ankles. I’m not putting a spell on the lad however we need to find a way to be effective without him. The QPR game was nothing short of incredible, he makes us tick and he knows how to locate Giroud. Now that I mention it, he has to be the unluckiest striker on the Arsenal roster. With only 3 goals  he looks to be in formidable form but its almost like the goals posts are supernaturally shifted every time he takes a shot or the keeper somehow finds this Herculean strength and god-like reflexes to save it.

If we can some how contain RVP, Rooney, Valencia. . . okay so if we can basically contain everybody while effectively attacking. key word the is EFFECTIVELY we can win the game. NO ONE SHOOTS OUTSIDE THE BOX and that’s a huge problem at the moment, thing is we have the players that can destroy but the are not living up to their names or maybe we just have high expectations.

Anyway I’m sure you are sick of me going on this is who I would love to see start the game on Saturday.

GK: Vito

DEF: Sagna, Merti, Koscielny, Vermaelen

MID: Arteta, Cazorla, Jack, Podolski, Walcott

ATT: Giroud.

For now I’m out.

Mean Lean’s Response

I am not so sure that Arshavin will feature from the start given his excursions at Reading. He isn’t exactly known as being the fittest member of our squad so I do not see him being Gervinho’s replacement. The same can be said for Koscielny who played the whole game including extra time so a place on the bench for those including Theo is quite likely.

Given the nature of the game, I think we will start with pretty much the same team as we did against Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

A bit harsh to label Wilshere’s ankles as glass, it is his first major injury and he pretty much played every game in his first season. Fingers crossed that his career is a relatively fit one, Ramsey *touch wood* has come back from a terrible injury without any problems, not even a niggle so I am hoping that Jack follows suit.

I actually think the pair of them will be important for us tomorrow. I can see them both having good games for us. The midfield battle should be very interesting.

Speaking of battles. for those who haven’t read Iron Man’s article on our battles against the enemy over the years please do so. it is a very enjoyable read. Back with a preview in the morning.
