A good afternoon to you,
I had my hands tied over the weekend, not literally mind, that might have been rather more enjoyable than the work I had to go through so I haven’t had the chance to pen any views on the football from the top six teams in the Premier League.
I’ll keep it short as the boat has sailed but I enjoyed a big part of the West Brom game and absolutely hated the rest. I think many will agree with that. Tomas Rosicky was no different to his last run of games apart from two important goals. He oozes class and once clear of injuries and given the platform to play his football then you see that he is a quality performer. When he was in
and out of the side last season with injury, he was labeled as average and deadwood but as I have banged on repeatedly, you cannot truly judge a player until he has had a run in the team. That goes for most players around the globe.
Aaron Ramsey’s first half display was exceptional, the best I’ve seen from him in a while. I think Aaron makes Mikel Arteta a better player. He gives the Spaniard more of a freedom and rather than our deepest player being fixed, there is more rotation. Ramsey’s spell as the holding player has not only helped himself but has also loosened the shackles around our vice captain.
The sending off completely changed the momentum of the game. I couldn’t believe how we went from bossing possession to not being able to keep the ball. I muttered to myself that it may have been better for Gervinho to have stayed on and moved inside rather than leaving Giroud isolated. With Walcott and Chamberlain not on the pitch we lost all ability to stretch West Brom and cause their slow back four problems as they pushed up to try and find the equaliser.
Luckily we held on by the skin of our teeth. That was one of those games during our last couple of title challenging years where a goal would have been conceded in stoppage time.
I didn’t expect anything from Sunderland so Chelsea moved back into third and that was because Tottenham minus Gareth Bale could only manage a draw against Everton in a rather entertaining game.
It made me gulp a little I must say because Everton are no mugs and they will put everything into their game against us, as well as being stronger with some key players returning, but that is for another time.
We have a game in hand over Tottenham and are two points behind them but I refuse to chuckle at our neighbours during this reversal of fortune because once they are rid of the Manchester City game they have many beatable teams until the rearranged Chelsea game comes up towards the end of the season. As much as I want it to happen, I just do not see us winning all our games from now until the end. I also expect Tottenham to go on a winning run once more so I agree with Andre Villas-Boas, it will go right down to the wire.
Rumours have it that Bayern Munich want Laurent Koscielny. With Pep the new boss, it makes total sense. He would be fantastic at Bayern as he would at Barcelona or wherever, but… get lost! We are in the middle of building a competitive squad and he better be key to that squad. Hugely underrated considering how bloody brilliant he is.
There is also some news about Arshavin planning to retire at 32. Given that he hasn’t played much football this season, I think that would be a little strange. He is out of contract come the summer so let us see what he does.
Lastly, I watched the Arsenal under 21s lose 3-2 against Liverpool in and superbly entertaining game of football. Gnabry was fairly quiet but scored a stunning goal. He may not be a great goal scorer but he is a scorer of great goals (nicked from an old Arsenal VHS tape [google it] from my youth)
I love what Hector Bellerin gives the reserve team and I swear, Theo Walcott would do well looking at some of his runs off the back of his opposition defender. I want to write an article about the right back situation but I am lazy and busy, not the best combination in the world. I shall try and do that before the season end.
There was a lot of hype about 16 year old Gedion Zelalem who had received international clearance to play for the youngsters. He is labeled the new Fabregas which is bloody unfair on the kid. You can see why though in some ways. A good 2-3 years younger than the rest of the players on the pitch, more in some cases yet looks remarkably composed in possession and makes good choices. You know a player is good when he does not look out of place against players older than him. Judging from that one 90 minutes, I would have liked to have seen a bit more aggression from him without the ball but hey, what kind of hypocrite would I be if I was to judge him too much on that one performance.
Which brings me pretty much full circle and a good time to wave goodbye. Enjoy your Tuesday.
’til the next time.
