Poor old Alisher Usmanov wants to share his pain once more. Repeatedly he has banged on the doors at Arsenal HQ with a boot load of suitcases packed to the brim of £50 notes labeled ‘please spend’
Just like Freddie Ljungberg, Usmanov’s timing is phenomenal. Arriving in the right place but at the wrong time to tell all about how Mr Kroenke is a very bad man and tearful Usmanov wants the best for the team he supports. No not Manchester United that is his other team but Arsenal FC.
I wonder how large the red and white team are. Read any article on the Arsenal boardroom and check the comments sections. username Gooner1 will usually be agreeing with Gooner2 about how badly the club need change. Always good for a chuckle.
Regular readers will know how much this boardroom talk bores me and I have struggled to stay awake writing this much about the topic.
All I wish for is that the club generate enough cash each season to compete with most football clubs. We would never have been in that position had we stayed at Highbury.
With the new front loaded commercial deals on top of the television cash, we should be in our strongest position in any summer since we moved into the larger apartment next door.
Fingers have been pointed here there and everywhere as to why we haven’t spent a lot of Arsene’s ‘warchest’ I have my own view on that but the coming summer should give everyone a clearer idea of where we stand today.
A profit on transfers should no longer be a priority in order to pay down debt, increased income should see to that so I cling onto this and have hope that a manager who has always said that he is not afraid to spend will have the full backing to do just that.
I really like the foundations of this squad that Arsene is currently building, I love the attitude. It may not always have the talent but you can improve and buy that side, improving and buying attitude is far more difficult to do.
There is still a list of players waiting by the exit door hoping for someone to come and pick them up and take them to their new destinations, I wonder how much of this will need to be achieved before we can focus on bringing players in.
Arsene Wenger will be at the club for the last year of his contract at least, that ridiculous article claiming that he had an optional 2014 is beyond stupid. These days many will disagree but I would love Arsene to get another contract. He has carried all those bags up the hill for so long, now that he can put them down it would only be fair to let him walk without them. Give the man a chance to compete on a more level playing field.
Whatever Arsene decides to do we are in very decent shape as long as Martin O’Neil or Harry Redknapp doesn’t replace the great man of course. Usmanov’s continuous talk of doom won’t make me think otherwise.
Anyway, the sun seems to be out again. I better post this before it disappears once more.
’til the next time.
