Higuain and Suarez are not like for like & Old Suarez thoughts

Personally I would have preferred we spent £40m+ on another striker. Who? I do not know, honestly I couldn’t tell you but I disagree with those who say, why spend £40m on Suarez when we could offer that for Higuain. They are not like for like players, they have different skill sets, they give the team different strengths. The idea of Higuain tucking away chances in the penalty area got me excited

About a month or so ago I scoffed at the idea that Arsene would be interested in signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool, I was made aware that I was mistaken in a nudge, nudge type of way by someone who has been correct with information way before newspapers had latched onto it. I still found it difficult to believe in our interest but it looks like something will happen.

I have already stated my dislike of Luis Suarez and the ‘incidents’ he has been involved in. Iron Man wrote a controversial yet very well written piece yesterday that I advise you to read, but please remember that it is his opinion. Those who disagree seem to do so with such anger. Strange.

We are now in the situation where the chances of this deal happening are pretty good so I need to search for a way of dealing with this. Some can brush it all to one side, shrug shoulders and be happy, others have different views. Personally I am not able to ignore the bad but I would be lying to myself if I wasn’t intrigued to know what his on pitch talents could do at Arsenal.

The idea of Higuain tucking away chances in the penalty area got me excited when I thought he would arrive but that does not wipe away the doubt I had/have about the rest of his game.

In games where we are not creating many chances and we need something special to win a game, Higuain would likely vanish out of the game. If he had the mobility and individual quality of Suarez then I am sure that Arsene would have gone all the way.

I do not quite understand why we chased Higuain as first choice if we then switched our attentions to Suarez unless of course we were all sold the dummy by Arsene and our number one target was actually the Liverpool forward in the first place. I’m not sure that is the case given the player representative’s comments. I don’t know, what I do know is that both players are completely different so arguing that we should have paid more for Higuain rather than Suarez doesn’t actually make a great deal of sense.

Going back to my feelings on the matter, I agree with Arseblog’s take a few days ago. If he scores goals then I will celebrate Arsenal scoring like I always do. It doesn’t mean I have to like the player. At the end of the day the players are working, they are doing their job while we are the fans who are emotionally attached.

I was interested to know what I thought of Suarez before all the hoo-har took place so I searched for his name on this website and found this in June 2011

“In the meantime, I would rather we focused our energies on repairing his hamstrings or at least managing them much better and build a team around him that suit his strengths. Cesc needs attacking movement, he needs runners, he needs intelligent movement that can creek the door open for Cesc to find that gap. A player like Luis Suarez would have been wonderful for Cesc. Last season the movement would usually only come from Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie, at the end of the season it was only the latter who looked to find spaces in the box.

I do not know what Gervinho’s movement is like as I haven’t watched a full game of his as yet but I pray that he has that in his game, if he does then Cesc will develop a good understanding with him and that will be good for us.”

I might revisit this once more come the end of this transfer window. Anyway, this is all pretty draining so let us continue to wait and see what develops.

’till tomorrow.
