My Emirates Cup Plea: Hold fire, baby porridge could still arrive

Chelsea want to buy Rooney but haven’t done so yet, Manchester United want to make sure they do not fall behind Manchester City but are yet to make any serious progress. This tells me that there is more to it than just wanting to get players signed. There seems to be a method to some of the madness, not all but some. The amount of people stating as fact that Arsenal will NOT sign any players this summer. ‘Whenga and Gazidis are taking us for mugs, they are pocketing d cash for Stan and Whenga takes the profits home from the money we do not spend’ or such nonsense. (Surely they do know that is nonsense right?)

My little boy is six months old and like his father, he enjoys his food. I was on breakfast duty this morning and had the responsibility to fit his breakfast in with his usual routine. The thing is, I was kinda caught up in some early morning reading, checking the Arsenal news feeds, browsing through Twitter and also trying to sort out my PC. I have files everywhere and I just hate that. I suffer from PC OCD. If that doesn’t exist then it does now. I bet others have suffered through this in silence. You are not alone.

When your folders, programs and files are not how they should be. So obviously this needs sorting and sorting now, even though there are more pressing issues that I should be dealing with.

You know pressing issues like your son who is starting to show signs of restlessness. The odd wriggle here and the odd groan there but it’s a case of ‘one second son, I’ll be right with you’

You know how real life speeds up and time spent on your computer slows down? Well it was a case of that, all of a sudden my son is having full blown melt down. Kicking legs, arms bashing his bouncy chair and a very angry cry.

Ok, perhaps reorganising my PC isn’t the most important thing to be doing right now. Pushing the mouse aside, I swoop and pick him up, dash into the kitchen and plonk him into his highchair. Sitting in his highchair actually makes things worse and his pitch of cry goes up a notch.

Now to pour some fresh water into the kettle, damn I should have done this before but I have to wait for the water to boil. Maybe his bottle of water will comfort him? *dash onto the floor* ok, I guess he doesn’t want that then. Hurry up kettle, it shouldn’t take this bloody long.

Pour his baby porridge in a bowl and save as much time as possible but the damn kettle is still not done.

‘Hey little man, brekky won’t be long’ but I remember that I am talking to a six month old baby who doesn’t have a clue what I am talking about.

From his point of view, breakfast isn’t coming, he is sitting there and he is hungry. My older kids concerned by their brothers outrage is asking why he is crying so much.

‘Well kids, daddy has been dithering (so true in this case) and the little monster is hungry’

The house is pretty stressed for those few minutes, what makes it worse is that I have to stick the breakfast near the window to cool down and I can’t explain this to him so he hasn’t a clue what is going on.

It all ended well in the end, he ate his breakfast and puked most of it up back on my T-shirt. Payback I’d imagine.

I think most of you know where I am getting at with this piece and for those who don’t, let me care to explain.

It is the Emirates cup coming round this weekend, I am going to the Saturday game and I am looking forward to it I must say but yes, like so many I am hungry. I’m not screaming just yet but I guess my fear is that so many will be at the Emirates cup.

It is almost football destiny that Higuain will score against us (reverse jinx in place), a little like former player scoring syndrome. You just know that it won’t go down well when so many people wanted him as our striker and assumed that a deal was done and now he is playing against us.

Many have hinted already that the atmosphere could change around the club and I really hope it does not. The feeling surrounding our home games in recent years has been just horrendous at times. You could feel the atmosphere in the air, everybody could and the players have also pointed this out many times.

That started to clear last season and it felt good again, we were on an upwards curve, confidence was returning and as we know, we have a very good young base to build upon. The last thing we need is to spray poison in the air.

Now should the transfer window close and no other players are brought in then I lower my hand and put a halt to my plea, in fact I will be slumped in a corner of a dark room, rocking back and forward, scratching my head as to why we are not using our new fresh resources.

I have a few points as to why I urge a hold fire. Firstly, quite importantly the date today is 2nd August 2013. The window closes in a month from now (2nd September 2013) and we know from experience that most transfers are done towards the end of the window. What you don’t believe me? Check the dates in this link..

An early signing this summer would have been fantastic, a great boost for the club. There is still work to be done in areas that isn’t forward so I understand why Gooners want the club to get their arses in gear but I am honestly amazed at the amount of people who are acting as if the window closed yesterday.

Let us remember that Chelsea want to buy Rooney but haven’t done so yet, Manchester United want to make sure they do not fall behind Manchester City but are yet to make any serious progress.

Given that a look through history for all clubs, many deals are done late in the window, given that we have pushed a list of players out of the door and that we have cash to spend logic suggests that we will spend. This might not happen for whatever reason, there is certainly no guarantee of this but if I was a betting man etc etc.

Point number 2, we actually have Arsenal players already on our books. Some of them people actually like as well. You know that Jack Wilshere fella, that little smiley Spanish dude with two feet, The Ox, Gooner Jenks, the guy who signed da ting, The German who walks around making noises and so many more. A lot of the guys who you didn’t like have gone right? So really we should be giving the guys we have some support, some positivity before the season starts.

If it didn’t affect the players then it wouldn’t really matter and I would not care but unfortunately it does. Regardless of what side of this mysterious fence you sit on, affecting the players in a negative way is counter productive and doesn’t help does it?

This site is not the biggest platform in the world but I wanted to do my bit because I think it is important for Arsenal FC. I would urge you to wait for the game after September 2nd. If our only signing is Yaya Sanogo then we’ve gone mad but let us not kick, scream and cry when we get into the highchair. For all we know baby porridge could be just around the corner.
