I’ve always been sceptical about Sagna at centre back, but yesterday against Galatasaray, he kind of managed to clear my doubts. He was convincing in ground duels and for one not greatly built for a centre back, he managed to dominate in the air. Another thing I noticed is how he comfortably slotted in as a deputy right back when Jenkinson ventured forward which makes you wonder how a real DM would fit into our side and help plug gaps when Sagna acts as an auxiliary right back from his Centre

Good morning Gooners, another week is here, another week that pushes us to the start of a new season. The joy is 2 fold.
This past weekend saw The Arsenal strut their stuff at the Emirates, pity we fell short no thanks to Didier Drogba, a man that has tormented us for as long as I can remember. It is only a pre-season game! In other words, it is all about getting back to shape before we face Aston Villa come Saturday afternoon on the 17th day of August.
Two shinning lights from the just concluded Emirates Cup are Ramsey and Sagna. Both stood out and showed us why they would be key to our season.
Ramsey as always showed spectacular engine, running up and down the pitch doing a massive job for the team, defensively and offensively. Another aspect of his game that stood out for me is his passing range. One ball in the 1st half to find Theo against Galatasaray completely blew me away. Always knew he had that in him but he hasn’t showed it enough. Well, it is coming at a point when he is brimming in confidence.
A while back, say 2 years ago, I read a piece on an Arsenal blog where the writer was of the opinion that Ramsey in the long run would be the better player than Jack. It stuck and ever since I’ve been a keen follower and prayed he gets his rock bottom confidence back. To say I’m ecstatic about the massive strides he is making would be an understatement. Long may it continue.
I’ve always been sceptical about Sagna at centre back, but yesterday against Galatasaray, he kind of managed to clear my doubts. He was convincing in ground duels and for one not greatly built for a centre back, he managed to dominate in the air. Another thing I noticed is how he comfortably slotted in as a deputy right back when Jenkinson ventured forward which makes you wonder how a real DM would fit into our side and help plug gaps when Sagna acts as an auxiliary right back from his Centre Back position. It could make us insanely tight at the back.
One major cause for alarm was our midfield and it was evident in our 1st game against Napoli. It shows it lacks depth and above all, our real need for a defensive midfielder.
Another thing I noticed is how Ramsey and Jack don’t work as a double pivot pairing. Napoli strolled through our midfield and their goals proved that. Both can play together but truth is for them to function well, they need a defensive shield.
In that, we can rotate our midfield and keep all fresh during the course of the season. The options a new DM gives are refreshing to see;
Arteta – New DM – Santi
New DM – Ramsey – Jack,
Arteta – Ramsey – Rosicky,
New DM – Jack – Santi,
New DM – Ramsey – Oxlade.
Hopefully Arsene would have noticed this and see why the need for a defensive midfielder is really needed and make a splash in the transfer market. Luis Gustavo is readily available and for £15m, which in my opinion is a bargain and a steal.
One more pre-season friendly to go and the fact that it is against City makes it all the more mouth watering. Always good to slug it out against the best which would show us where we need to improve.
Alright, that’s it from me. All the best this week, may it bring good tidings to you and your household. God bless!!!
