Napoli (h) Thoughts & Line Up: Higuain out, could Arteta and Rosicky come in?

Arsenal on the break, we know how they will play but it will be interesting to see what Arsene does. How does he approach the game, I imagine the first half will be a safety first approach and not much in the way of overcommitting, but I imagine that we will be more adventurous in the second half. Needless to say, the first goal will be vital. This could be the perfect game to rotate Mikel Arteta back into the equation. His passing accuracy from the back four could come in handy. I expect another change with Tomas Rosicky

We might be top of the Premier League at present but there is no time for back slapping, the Champions League has come so quickly after a professional victory at Swansea. Italian Serie A leaders Napoli come to London unbeaten so far this season. Rafa Benitez has worked his counter attacking magic this season and were impressive in beating group favourites Borussia Dortmund in the first round of matches.

It will be interesting to see how the game pans out as both sides have been very counter attackingish (I like that word) this season. Which gives me an excuse to point you in the direction of this wonderful piece that I read last night on our change of approach. A must read.

Napoli have little reason to commit themselves forward so in a way that removes a little bit of pressure from them, they will look to hit Arsenal on the break, we know how they will play but it will be interesting to see what Arsene does. How does he approach the game, I imagine the first half will be a safety first approach and not much in the way of overcommitting, but maybe more adventurous in the second half.

Needless to say, the first goal will be vital.

This could be the perfect game to rotate Mikel Arteta back into the equation. His passing accuracy from the back four could come in handy. I expect another change with Tomas Rosicky back in the squad. Most probably Serge Gnabry who played 120 minutes against West Brom before playing again a few days later at Swansea. It is a lot for an 18 year old who is still growing to have to endure another high level start. That said, the boy looks robust. It could also depend on the condition of Jack Wilshere. This all said, perhaps Rosicky is not yet ready for a start so I am just throwing around names for no reason.

If Gnabry does not start then we will be missing an outlet. Ryo Miyaichi is the only fit outlet left in the squad but he is not ready for this level at the moment so assuming Tomas Rosicky comes in, we may adjust our set up with Özil pushing closer to Giroud and the midfield dropping a little deeper.

Headline writers may have to put down their pens for today as it appears that Gonzalo Higuaín will be missing the game through injury. Not that it would matter because Laurent Koscielny would have stuck him away in his pocket (famous last words)

Getting a little bored of the whole Higuain thing to be honest. We could have signed him, we didn’t. Can we move on now?

Should Arteta and Rosicky come in for Gnabry and Flamini then we could have quite the possession team. Or as Arsene would say, adding technical security. I don’t know about you but I want to see Rosicky and Özil on the pitch together. Two highly intelligent footballers who could really help each be even better.

A draw is not disastrous but victory would set us up nicely in this group so let’s do this.
