Hi all you Gooners out there,
The season is more than half way over. As Arsenal fans, we are naturally quite pleased at this period, given how well we have played thus far and the progress we have made in the various competitiions.
However let’s not forget the news and debates which shook our world just a few months ago, that is, Henry(remember him?) leaving the club.
Henry is no doubt the greatest striker Arsenal has ever had, if not the Premier League. He was the beacon of hope for all Arsenal fans, and last season, I was saying ‘wait till Henry and Van Persie get fit again and plays together.” I am sure many of you out there thought the same way too.
Yet, so uch changed. I’m sure we noe what happened next, and after buying just an unknown striker from Croatia, we were to start the season. And of course, almost every tablet in town were saying how we would not finish in the top 4.
Utter rubbish. We are now on top of the table, even ahead of I-really-spend-a-alot-man-u. And credit must go to everyone in the team. We have pleasant surprises in the Fabregas-Flamini axis, the Gallas captaincy, the Hleb finally playing well, the Sagna, the Rosicky-is-scoring, etc.
However, it is the striker department which is a little interesting. Before the season, everyone was talking about F.Torres, the bloke who signed for Liverpool. And along with Voronin, Liverpool was said to have the fantastic four of strikers. We all noe how the non-Torres strikers fared this season, so enough of Liverpool.
No one noticed we had our fantastic four, or should i say five. Ade, Persie, Dudu, Super Dane and even Walcoot tt has been great this season. Ade is currently the top scorer for Arsenal this season, scoring some crucial, some beautiful goals, yet missing a million other chances. Persie was great when he was not injured(yes there’s such a phenomenon), scoring some really beautiful goals along the way. Dudu has scored rather regularly lately, and aiding us in the tough month of December. Neither Super Dane, nor Walcott, has scored goals for fun. They do pop in the goals once in a while.
So my pick for best striker so far this season is Ade. He has played the most games and has worked very hard every game. This means unlike I-sit-at-penalty-box-waiting-for-the-ball strikers like Inzaghi or Nistelrooy, Adebayor still gets good ratings even when he doesn’t score. And yes, he has improved a lot, and by looks of it, can get much better too.
So what is your pick for best striker so far? And who will be our best striker/top scorer overall at the end of the season?
