But lets try and get some perspective about the team that played last night. Try and imagine these two sides playing at the Emirates

22nd January 2008 – 11.44pm

I am sat waiting for my train to depart Euston and I am still in shock after that result. I had a feeling that Spurs would be too strong for our younger team but I never expected that. The thing is we had some good possession during the game and controlled large parts of the play. The one massive problem was our defence, not only the defence but the lack of protection from our midfield. Gilberto once again looked out of sorts and offered very little in the way of protection.

What in gods name was going on for the first goal in the first few minutes? It felt like Ryan Giggs all over again. Players standing around admiring Jermaine Jenas’ stupid hair style before he fired into the corner of the net.

I tried the whole ‘It’s ok, because it was our second string team’ but the scoreline hurts no matter which players took to the field. We had to defend better as a team and not just left to the back four and keeper.

At this moment I have two issues.

1) That our first team will be affected by this result and performance
2) Listening to Spurs fans go on for years and years how they beat Arsenal 5-1

One of my mates has already started by saying that Wenger bottled it by playing first team players when he said he would only play younger players and that they beat us with alot of our first team players on the pitch. Explaining sense to him doesn’t work and it is the same for a vast majority of Spurs fans.

I thought I would feel better the after some good sleep, but a) I didn’t get much in the way of good sleep and b) It still feels pretty crappy.. But lets try and get some perspective about the team that played last night. Try and imagine these two sides playing at the Emirates.

Not only the line ups but add in that we haven’t beaten them since 1821 and they have been the dominating side in North London for the last 45 years or so then of course you would expect a beating but having said all that it doesn’t really make it any easier.

I didn’t like to see Bendtner and Adebayor squaring up to eachother. I really would like to know what was said between the pair of them. Perhaps that is the reason why Arsene doesn’t start them as a partnership. Bendtner has already claimed that he thinks he is better than Adebayor. I cannot say I agree with him right now.

I don’t think I can say too much more about the game anymore. We have to put it down to bad defending, inexperience and the opposition wanted it more. Hats off to Spurs for playing a good game against us and to be honest they have been the better team against us in our last three meetings in my opinion. But they have a long long way to go before they can match our ability as a squad. Lets get this out of the way and focus on the more important targets such as the Premier League and Champions League. Two trophies Tottenham Hotspur would love to competing in.
