Picture the scene. Saturday afternoon, im sitting watching the Midday match between Birmingham city and Arsenal on Sky Sports 1 with my Dad who although as a person is a decent guy would admit to not exactly being a football fan. In fact he hates football for the most part, but on Saturday he perhaps had a change of heart and thought we could do with some father son bonding so he decided to watch it with me.

I felt sick seeing Eduardo get stretchered off and and even more sick seeing that free kick go in. My usual abuse at the TV went pretty much as it usually does, having a go at our players that seem to want to over complicate things, and having a go at Andy Gray for his usual comments on how inferior we are to Man Utd and that we havent got the players to see the title through.

But one thing I didnt bank on was my Dad piping up and asking if the two commentators were Birmingham fans? I asked why, and he said it seemed as if they really had it in for Arsenal. I’d always noticed that commentators always seemed to drool over Man Utd when they play but just complain about Arsenal’s disciplinary record and lack of English players when the gunners played. But i usually put it down to paranoia and thought i only noticed it because im a fan.

But now, a complete non football fan. A person that doesnt know Arsenal from Leyton Orient could also recognise how the commentry was extremely biased against Arsenal.

That got me thinking that we really are a hated club. People really really dont like us. And i started thinking back to various incidents this season: Last week, two hammers fans walked in my office singing Man Utd songs when we lost 4-0. I over heard them speaking later saying how much they lvoed it when Arsenal lost. When we lost to Spurs in the carling cup, i got a barage of emails and texts from people that werent even Spurs fans. One Chelsea fan in particular was more explicit in his abuse than any Spurs fan that sent me abuse.

BBC1 for some time have had it in for Arsenal. Be honest, when was the last time they backed us? And now, on Saturday Martin Tyler was reduced to making comments about it was the first time an englishman had scored in the premier league for Arsenal since Justin Hoyte “Sometime last season!”. (Do us a favour Martin, if your going to come out with a fact make sure you get it right before you say it!). Andy Gray was even worse saying how the bookies had written off Man Utd’s chances and he felt it was too premature, have we got the players to see it through in comparison to Man Utd.

And just take time if you can to read the comments from non-Arsenal fans on this site. Their hate for us is unbelievable! I cannot understand why. We dont play bad football. Ok we dont have many English players, but you cant say we havent done alot for the english game, Bentley, Sidwell, Cole all nutured from the Arsenal academy. Doesnt any football fan out there fancy a break from Man Utd’s dominance? Doesnt anyone like to see a club full of young enthusiastic footballers that have been bought on a shoe string budget win the biggest prize against all odds? Is there no pundit or commentator apart from Ex-Arsenal players that actually like to see us win, and feel sorry for us when we have an afternoon of injustices?

It appears not….
