I hope Arsene Wenger will go 4-4-2 but he tends to go 4-5-1 in European games. As Liverpool will be playing 5 across midfield I expect Van Persie to be on the left which would be a shame.
I love the morning/afternoon before a big Champions League match. It is a different feeling to a normal Premier League match even if we are playing an English team.
There is something about the evening kick off, the hype, wanting to have the best result of the English clubs, which is likely to be in Manchester United’s hands at this point.
Rafa Benitez has ‘hit back’ at Kolo Toure’s comments that Liverpool are running scared of Arsenal when the poor bloke didn’t even say that but that is the press for you.
“When we play in Europe we have a lot of confidence and playing against Arsenal we beat them 4-1 at Anfield last season.” beamed Rafa.
“This season we drew 1-1 and we had big problems because Torres was injured. We played 45 minutes with him not fit, and after we had a problem with Alonso.
“I think we can beat them if we do our job and we work as hard as we were working before.” he added.
I think you forgot that we scored 6 at Anfield last season as well, but there you go. I guess some of us have selective memory.
What Toure actually said was that Liverpool will be scared to come out at play football against us which we all know before the game. A nice early goal will change that philosophy.
Arsene Wenger has come up with another moment of truth speech, which scares the living daylights out of me because whenever I hear that from Wenger, Vieira before him and any Arsenal player then we generally tend to mess it up. Lets hope this isn’t the case this time around.
“It will be the highest challenge for me,” declared the Frenchman. “The next 10 days will define our season because I strongly believe that we are in the championship race.
“Our next two games in the championship are Liverpool and United and then, on top of that, we have two Champions League games so this next period is vital.”
I am worried about of habit of leaving to much space on the counter attack and if we do allow that space then Gerrard and Torres will have a field day. If we allow them space then a repeat of the Inter Milan performance at Highbury could happen. Torres is so clinical that any half chance will be taken in his current form. Having said that, would you take a 3-0 defeat at The Emirates for a tasty 5-1 victory at Anfield? I think that would be disgustingly lovely.
Arseney Wengeree has been pleased with Theo Walcott’s impact from the bench.
“Theo has made a big impact every time he’s come on at the moment,” said Wenger.
“I’ll use him sometimes with him coming on. Other times I’ll start with him. I will see. The first game [against Liverpool] will decide a lot.”
I expect Theo (why do I only use his first name?) to start on the bench yet again and I would tend to agree with that, I’m not the biggest Eboue fan at this moment in time but I know when he does well he is an important part to the way we play. He gives that physical balance in the midfield (I could see Wenger saying that) He protects the right back behind him, which allows usually Sagna to go beyond him and put in a final ball. Think of how many assists Sagna has this season, I suspect that had Eboue not been playing infront of him then that figure would be alot less. Kolo Toure continue the attacking rightback role in Sagna’s absence.
I think I would rather Toure playing at center back to cover Torres’ pace. But I don’t think we have anyone good enough to fill in at right back. Alot of you guys have been saying that you think Eboue should drop back into right back, but the fact is, he hasn’t played in defence all season and his positional sense isn’t the best at the best of times so it could be a risk doing that. Although Toure hasn’t been playing at right back I think due to playing most of the season in defence alongside his fellow defenders it gives him that better understanding. I do not think that Hoyte is trusted after away performances to Spurs and United this season. We could see Hoyte ousted from the squad next season. Which is a shame as he is a Gooner through and through.
Speaking of being ousted, I read that Aaron Lennon could be ‘axed’ from the Spurs squad after inconsistent performances under One Day Ramos.
Obviously it is just speculation but would you be happy if Arsene was interested? His final ball is quite often somewhat of a joke whenever I have seen him play but I think he would develop into a fantastic player under Arsene’s Stewardship. He do not cross the ball very often and I think his ability to beat the full back and provide cut backs could be just what our squad need. Depending on his attitude I would love to see someone like Lennon at Arsenal.
I hope Arsene Wenger will go 4-4-2 but he tends to go 4-5-1 in European games. As Liverpool will be playing 5 across midfield I expect Van Persie to be on the left which would be a shame.
4-5-1 halts our attacking play.
Toure Senderos Gallas Clichy
Eboue Flamini Hleb Cesc Van Persie
Adebayor
I as well as most would rather see Van Persie play alongside Adebayor and Hleb move to the left playing the way he did in the last half an hour against Bolton.
At least when we have the ball we must play offensively. We showed against Bolton that we can only play at our best when we play attacking football. Cagey football suits Liverpool not Arsenal. Cesc, Van Persie, Hleb and Adebayor play at their best at full tilt.
This is a hard one to predict, and in truth my predictions have imploded somewhat as our league form has during the season. I think it will be either 0-0 or a 1-0 victory to us.
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!
Until tomorrow.
