Hleb and Cesc but European teams around err Europe are offering their wives, the entire contents of their freezers and even their last rolo’s to get players to jump ship
If you don’t like something but you have to face this everyday you tend to usually grow to accept it or get used to it over time but it fair to say that I have never got used to waking up early in the morning and I am pretty sure that I will never be a big fan of early starts. I felt awful this morning and still haven’t woken up while I am writing this.
Anyway, enough of that, What is going on in the world of Arsenal football club?
Arsene Wenger has warned his Arsenal players that it would be criminal to think that they cannot win trophies at Arsenal and a move to another club would not be the best thing at this stage.
“You can go to Real Madrid and Barcelona, but you have no more guarantees to win trophies,” said Wenger
“It would be criminal not to believe we could do it because we were so close this year.
“We could have gone unbeaten this season as well as we only lost three games, and if you look at how we lost them, we were not far from that level (of consistency).
“That is why I am so insistent that I keep this team together and that we try to come back and have a good go next year.
“We have a very young team with a great future.”
I have a feeling that it is not about winning trophies, it is probably a bit of the Ashley Cole situation going on with certain players. Arsenal are offering a decent wage to players like Flamini, Hleb and Cesc but European teams around err Europe are offering their wives, the entire contents of their freezers and even their last rolo’s to get players to jump ship.
The fact that Arsene Wenger has come out with these statements seems like he is concerned about a few of his players. The rumours about Hleb came out recently and it hasn’t been denied by the club as far as I know.
The Flamster has 10 days to pick up a pen or leave it on the desk. I have had the feeling that he is leaving the club and I haven’t changed my mind. He was in this situation with Marseille and I think History could well be repeating itself.
It would be a massive blow to lose him. Talent wise, he could be replaced with many a midfielder around the world but has so much more than that. He is a leader, drives the team on and fights for his players. That is what is difficult to replace.
His performance in Milan was truly out of this world, and I think I will remember that for many many years.
‘He says he wants to stay and I believe him. But as long as he has not signed, for me, he is free to sign where he wants. We have set ourselves a target until the end of the month of April to finalise the situation, one way or the other.’
If he was to stay and sign a long term deal I would like to see him as captain for next season. He already acts like one when he is on the pitch. He seems to be liked by his players and is in the right position on the pitch to do the job well.
I think Cesc is still a little petulant to be captain at this stage of his career. If Gallas was to be stripped of the duty then who would you choose?
Former Manager George Graham has had his say on what Arsene should do to make this current team better.
He said: He (Arsene Wenger) must look back and ask: ‘Did the players get tired? Why did they get tired? Did he have a strong enough squad? Were they too inexperienced to get over the white line and win the trophy?’
“He needs, in my opinion, three or even four ready-made players, which will cost a lot of money – and that may be a problem because I don’t know if Arsenal have got a big budget to get new players in next season.
“Certain players at Arsenal keep on getting injured, and you know next season, the same players will probably be on the treatment table a lot.”
George was never a big spender in his day. In my youth I wanted him to break the bank for the likes of Dean Saunders, Andy Sinton, Les Ferdinand and Andy Townsend and it never happened. I would have to be content with Pal Lydersen wow, how things have changed. Those of you who have only supported Arsenal during Arsene’s years will never really truly understand how far our manager has brought us since those days.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention it in yesterday’s My Vision but wasn’t Adebayor’s finish very clinical on Saturday? You would almost think he was a player who has scored a fair amount of goals for the team this year.
I hope Reading and Fulham stay up, It is looking rather unlikely that they both will but it would be a help to our points tally next season. I can honestly say that I would not share any tears if Bolton find themselves in the Championship next season.
* I bet we lose to one of those teams next season now.. sorry
Right, that is more than enough waffle for one day. Enjoy your Monday afternoon and all that jazz.
Until tomorrow.
