How would Robinho affect Clichy? / Cesc picks up award

Arsene is right, Clichy was amazing that day and I am sure the French manager would have watched that with interest. I still think that he is behind Evra down to his final ball in the last third

The weekend just didn’t feel right without Arsenal thrown somewhere in the middle of it. I still have not properly adjusted to playing on Monday night

It looks like Derby manager Paul Jewell will be looking to have a conversation with Arsene Wenger at some point about some of our young players.

“I have spoken to Arsene a couple of times in the season about maybe having a look at some of his players,” he said.

“What I said was if you’d be prepared to loan out anyone let us know. It benefits everybody so it’s something I’ll be speaking to him about on Monday.”

If the likes of Barazite and Rui Fonte do not break through next season then they could well be the sort of players I expect to see go on loan, although I am sure Arsene will like to see them in the new Carling cup team for next season.

Obviously the difference between reserve team football and first team action is another level altogether but like I have said many times now, young Barazite looks like one of the best all round players beneath the first team. He got a chance in the Carling Cup match against Blackburn earlier in the season but didn’t last long thanks to injury which is a crying shame for the lad. That indicates how high on the ladder Nacer is at the moment.

Arsene Wenger has come out in full praise of Gael Clichy.

“I am very positive with Gael because he loves the game and, every day after training, he’s out there practising to improve,” Wenger said. “There was a question mark about whether Gael would last the season – but he has played more games than anyone else.

Take note Rosicky and Van Persie!

“When you see the game he produced at Old Trafford, you think ‘oh, there’s more in the locker, because he takes more responsibility’.

“It was a top-class performance, not only football wise but character – he showed a non acceptance of the defeat when we were down 2-1.

“He was the one who really moved forward.”

Arsene is right, Clichy was amazing that day and I am sure the French manager would have watched that with interest. I still think that he is behind Evra down to his final ball in the last third. Although it has improved, it still needs to get better. He plays as a winger when we are in possession of the ball and he is always a great outlet on the left so if he can improve by another 15% then he will contribute considerably in the new season.

It will be interesting to see who plays on the left wing next season because that could really affect Gael Clichy’s game. Clichy is at his best when he has the likes of Rosicky or Hleb infront of him. They come inside on their stronger foot and allow him to go outside him and further forward. Rosicky is very good at the reverse pass to Clichy on the inside of the opposition fullback and I have missed that link up. Both Rosicky and Hleb are good at tracking back to protect Clichy if an attack breaks down. If Arsene buys a player in the mould of Robinho then that will change. I guess Clichy would have to be a little more conservative in his approach as say Robinho is a player who likes to play in wide areas and isn’t as good going the other way.

It will be interesting to see how Walcott will affect Sagna next season, unless Walcott moves inside to join the strikers from the right as Overmars used to do ON THE LEFT!

I have gone way off track now, what on earth was I talking about? Oh yeah Clichy’s improvement this season. He has been one of our most consistent performers this season and deserves any credit that should fall his way.

Speaking of which, Cesc Fabregas collected the young players of the year award. Unsurprisingly Ronaldo picked up the player of the year and obviously he deserves that. The funny thing is that Chelsea did not have a player in the team of the season. Ha ha you boring bastards!

The team was..

James
SAGNA Vidic Ferdinand CLICHY
Ronaldo Gerrard FABREGAS Young
ADEBAYOR Torres

I personally think that Cesc could have had a better season than he did. He started in wonderful form, scoring goals and creating chances but he tailed off half way through the season. Injury was a part of that but he didn’t manage to recapture that high level. That is something for him to work on for next season.

Alex Hleb has spoken for the first time since his link to Inter.

“Who knows what will happen?” Hleb said in the Sunday Times.

“All I can say is that I enjoy the game here and enjoy playing for Arsenal.

“There is more to come from this team and from me.”

Pardon? ‘Who knows what will happen?’ and then ‘There is more to come from this team and from me’

That didn’t make much sense to me but anyway. Hopefully he will stay, I think he has alot more in his locker. Hopefully that will not be for Inter Milan or any of the predators around Europe.

haha, I just read a headline on Newsnow, they called Clichy Clitchy which is how some people misprounce it. Funny stuff.

Right, time to get on… have a good day. More tomorrow.
