Time to take action against the likes of Real and Inter

Arsene Wenger policy of bringing in young players and building them together is fantastic if all the players stay and improve together but it is pointless if we have 1 or 2 players leaving every summer

What a lovely day again, summer has turned up out of the blue and I welcome it with open arms.

The summer transfer rumours are in full swing right now and the season hasn’t even finished yet. Flamini has already gone, Hleb is continually linked to Inter Milan and now Real Madrid are back opening their mouths about Cesc Fabregas. It is time Arsenal take action over this and not just moaning to the press about it.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has expressed his desire to sign our midfield maestro.

Calderon said: “My policy is not to create a confrontation with other teams — but Cesc is No 1 in his position. I would like to have him.”

Arsene Wenger was furious with this and had his say on the matter.

“I don’t want to sit there and hear Madrid come out and say they want this player and Barcelona come out and say they want that one.

“I never come out and say that I want a player from Real Madrid or Barcelona because of respect to these clubs.

“If I want a player from them I call them,

Unless it is Ben Arfa apparently..ahem.

Arsene Wenger’s policy of bringing in young players and building them together is fantastic if all the players stay and improve together but it is pointless if we have 1 or 2 players leaving every summer.

At Highbury we could afford to pay our top earners £100,000 a week (Henry, Vieira etc) but obviously due to the stadium move and financial restructuring we have had to chop down our wage bill until the flats are sold and the debt is mostly paid off then we can increase our wages throughout the whole squad and keeping players should be less of an issue, well that is what I am hoping for.

So what is Wenger to do before then? How do we keep the likes of Hleb, Cesc, Clichy and Van Persie when teams like Barca, Real Madrid, Juventus, Ac Milan etc are sniffing around offering double salaries and as much ice cream as they could eat?

Even with our wage bill trimmed down we are still have the third highest wage bill in the Premier League.

Is playing beautiful football enough to keep professionals at our club? What we mustn’t forget is that these are foreign players doing their jobs and not fans playing for their childhood clubs just like erm.. Ashley Cole.. yeah.

The frustrating thing is that we all know that a few additions to this already talented squad would see us with a very good chance of the League and Champions League. Can we cope with losing Flamini, Hleb, Lehmann, Gilberto and possibly another fringe player with not huge amounts of transfer funds.

Arsene already has his list of players that he wants and I am sure talks have already started with several clubs, agents and players. We just will not know who they are until it happens.

Reading through blogs and forums it seems like some Arsenal fans have already decided who is joining us. Players like Gareth Barry are being spoken about as if he just needs to sign on the dotted line. Highly amusing stuff.

Theo Walcott is confident that this Arsenal squad will not self implode next time around.

Hopefully the young players will take this experience into next year. We will know how to cope with things if they happen again,” stated Walcott.

“Our main ambition is to win a trophy next year. We have been playing brilliant football but not winning things. Hopefully next season we can go one stage further and get a trophy.”

It is already a concern in my eyes. We have bottled it for the last two season during the most important part of the season, a third time would be disastrous.

Alot of people have put it down to lack of experience but I am not so sure. I think it was down a mixture of things like a lack of natural leaders and obvious key injuries throughout the squad. I do not believe that we would have drawn 4 games in a row with Rosicky and Eduardo in the squad. Anyhoo, it is time to put that behind us and move on.

I am gonna call it quits now and go and find a reason to go outside and enjoy the sunshine.

Have a good day. Drop your views in the comments.

Until tomorrow.
