Toure or Gallas? / Aquilani to Arsenal nonsense

I was very skeptical about the Van Persie / Adebayor partnership, I wondered if either of them could score enough goals during the course of the season and they have proved me wrong. To be honest I still do not see them as a proper partnership.

Good morning to you all,

I love Tuesday’s, I probably look forward to it more than I do the weekend. Why? because it is football night at Clapham Junction for full size 1 hour action. Great fun

Arsene Wenger has spoken about the teams chances of winning silverware next season.

Arsene said: “Overall this team has made a huge improvement compared to last year.

“We have combined quality with efficiency, but lacked a bit of experience to make the final step.

“The team gained a lot of experience with our disappointments. Suffering makes you more mature and that is why I think at the start of next season you will see a team which is much more mature in its behaviour.

“If we can add a bit more experience and talent, that is even better.”

He is right in what he says, the team jumped levels that most of us Gooners didn’t expect, especially without the best striker in the clubs history. Before the start of last season I was very skeptical about the Van Persie / Adebayor partnership, I wondered if either of them could score enough goals during the course of the season and they have proved me wrong. To be honest I still do not see them as a proper partnership. They look like two players who can score goals but not by linking up together but with the likes of Cesc, Rosicky, Clichy etc

I am still rather unsure about what Wenger is going to do at center half. There is obviously something wrong in that area. Arsene had many chances to move Toure back alongside Gallas but chose against it and decided to keep Song at the heart of defence. Even against Manchester United when the title was still possible.

Does this mean that Kolo is now the odd man out? After all the years at the heart of defence and consistently one of our best players I cannot imagine Wenger discarding him that easily, especially when William Gallas is 31 years old and does not have as long at the top as Toure.

Wenger has stated that he is not decided what he wants to do with the captaincy which obviously isn’t true. He knows exactly what he wants to do with the captaincy but he just does not want to tell everyone else, including the players I assume. If Gallas was going to be captain next season then he would have said so when the question was asked. Maybe Gallas will not be captain because he won’t be at the club. William Gallas will not stay around if he is not in the first team that is obvious. This is obviously guess work because only a very few people know what Arsene’s thinking is.

I would be very surprised if we see Toure and Gallas starting in the heart of defence next season.

Unlike alot of Gooners, I would say we would have a great chance of winning the league if we didn’t sign anyone this summer as long as we kept Hleb. Not that we do not need anything but what you have to remember is that it is unlikely for us to suffer such an injury ridden season, yes Van Persie and Rosicky are injury prone but you could not have expected Van Persie, Rosicky, Eduardo, Diaby and Sagna to have all been out at such an important part of the season.

Also this is the first time that this squad have played a season without Henry, we were effectively learning a new way of playing. The ball did not have to go through Henry most of the time. Players were no longer afraid to cross the ball into the box because Henry was not there to tell them not to.

If, yes it is a big if, but if Rosicky was fit for the final run in then I think we would have won the league, it is very easy to a statement like that but fans forget his quality going forward and tracking back. Eboue’s role is different in the side than it is for Tomas Rosicky but the run of draws against Birmingham, Wigan, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough would have surely been more profitable with the Czech on the left and Hleb on the right. I am very excited about the new season, even if Hleb leaves. Just as long as Adebayor and Cesc are still Arsenal players which I think they will be.

Another name has entered the transfer to Arsenal hat. Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani’s Agent has claimed that his client is in talks with us which already gives it away. I am pretty sure that Arsenal tell players and their agents to keep any talks quiet until a deal is done. I remember how the Sol Campbell, Rosicky and Eduardo deals were done out of the blue.

His agent

Vincenzo Morabito, told Italia Uno: “Aquilani is speaking to Arsenal. We will have to see if Roma will be able to match his demands.”

haha, talk about giving the game away.

I do not think that Arsene will buy a midfield player, not a first team one anyway. I still believe that Arsene has his faith firmly in Denilson for replacing Flamini. He is another high energy box to box midfield player who is strong in the tackle, and can only get better. It is down to him to make the Flamini type jump. It is some leap that’s for sure but I think he can do it. What he would give us is better passing ability and long range shooting.

It looks like Jens is on his way to Hleb’s former club Stuttgart. There are talks of the ever so mad one signing a one year deal before he start of the European championships.

BFG Phillipe Senderos is confident of staying at Arsenal for the next few years, he also squashed rumours of having a break down after the Liverpool game.

“I still have a contract with two years left on it and the boss wants me to stay. I’m also very happy in London so yes I still hope to be there next season,” he said.

“Personally I thought I had a pretty good season and it was really positive that I was able to play so many games this year.”

“I’m someone who is always hard on myself so I was disappointed like everyone else but I didn’t break down in tears and I didn’t miss training and I didn’t do all these things that they said I did,”

I have always wanted big Phil to do well and he gives us that extra height and aerial ability. He just seems a little to fragile for me, mentally and physically. He has been dominated by the likes of Drogba on more than one occasion, and makes mistakes a little to frequently for my liking. When he is good, he is really good. Does anyone remember the Real Madrid game at home? (I think) he was amazing and got the man of the match award. He dominated in the air, flew into tackles and looked a world beater. Unfortunately I can remember to many games where he has cost us. I cannot say that as much about Toure, Sol Campbell and even William Gallas.

He may even move down the pecking order with hopefully a new signing and Alex Song who has improved considerably.

While I am on the subject I would like to hold my hands up and wipe the slate clean. I am usually a pretty good judge of a player in my humble opinion. I watched Song in the first few games he had for Arsenal and I thought Arsene was having a laugh. I wrote him off but he has proved me and many Arsenal fans wrong. Well done son shine.

Have a great day. please drop your view in the comments.

Back tomorrow.
