I think we could even win the league next season WITHOUT adding any players to the squad. Obviously I think adding certain players to key areas is important and Arsene knows this but the squad jumped such a massive level last season
Good Morning Arsenal fans,
I want to start off by saying that I have a wonderful feeling about this summer and the coming season. I cannot wait until the Euro’s are over with and we can get back to the real deal, I have missed us being called the champions of this country and I am confident that we will be come this time next season. I was hoping that we could have wrapped up some of the signings before the European championship so I could keep an ever so detailed eye on the players but I may have to record as many matches as I can and watch back the games featuring the players (should we purchase any that is)
To be honest, I think we could even win the league next season WITHOUT adding any players to the squad. Obviously I think adding certain players to key areas is important and Arsene knows this but the squad jumped such a massive level last season and I expect them to do so again.
Remember when we had Thierry Henry, every season his level just kept getting higher. I would say to my mates that surely he cannot improve again next season and he did. Not all young players improve, especially at the rate that he did but most young players get better with experience. It is natural progression.
Clichy, Cesc, Denilson, Walcott, Van Persie, Eboue, Adebayor, Bendtner will all be on the up curve and that is only a fraction of the squad who have room to add another 30% to their game. Players like Vela and hopefully Nasri will have to get accustomed to English football and then they will join the up curve.
I think we need another central defender, a back up to Clichy and a Hleb replacement (should he leave) Apart from that I think we have enough in the squad as I don’t imagine injuries to be so bad next season.
Anyway I have so much to say about next season but it is far far to early for that right now. There is alot of news today floating around the internet and newspapers.
Arsene Wenger also believes that we can be a major force next season.
“I think we can win everything. We are very, very close,” Wenger said in the Daily Express, taken from the Arsenal Season Review DVD.
“Now that the Champions League final has become an FA Cup final (after Manchester United beat Chelsea in Moscow) the team who is very strong in England has a good chance to win the European Cup.
“The Premier League title goes down to one game, won or lost.”
The press claim that Manchester United and two other clubs one of them thought to be Arsenal have agreed a fee for Cardiff young starlet Aaron Ramsey, and it will be down to the player to make his choice.
Given the fact that Ryan Giggs is the kids idol and that they have won the double I can imagine that Manchester United is his first choice but lets not forget the powers of persuasion from our manager. He will hopefully come and look around our training ground and Wenger will do the whole ‘kids get a chance at our club’ speech. We will have to wait and see what happens on that front.
Arsene Wenger has been speaking about Samir Nasri once again.
Wenger said:
“At 21 years old his whole future is ahead of him and he has a margin for progressing further,” he said. “He has, in any case, the qualities needed to assert himself at the highest level.”
We have heard that it is legal documents holing up the transfer. International clearance papers I hear, and he cannot sign without them.
Wenger’s quotes sound like he can push him even further than he already is. Any technical player would improve in our set up. Our football is suited to talented footballers who play with the ball to feet. Watching England after watching Arsenal is actually quite painful.
As I write this some great news has just come through, we have finalised a signing.. Bacary Sagna has signed a 2 year extension, taking his contract up to 2014.
Sagna said:
“I love Arsenal, they are a great club,” Sagna stated.
“The manager is also very good and next season we will be fighting for all the trophies.”
I am loving this guy more and more as time goes on. I cannot remember a better right back in all my time supporting the club. It is very hard to say that after only one season at the club but that is exactly my point. He has been here for one year and his level is amazing. I can think of one game where he was below par (Sunderland at home) and I watched 99% of our games last season.
Lee Dixon was a superb defender who worked very well with the famous back four but offensively he had his weakness, Lauren was a crowd favourite because of his hard nature but defensively he was sometimes found out. Sagna has the lot and was rightly crowned the best right back in the Premier League last season.
Sagna was very complimentary of Arsenal but former wide man Freddie Ljungberg was less so.
Ljungberg was speaking to Sport Den Za Dnem (Russian newspaper), he said:
“It’s all about my injuries. Wenger simply doesn’t like those who show a weakness. With him, you generally feel as if you were in the army – it’s only in public that he may appear to be some sort of man of liberal views. In reality, his belief is natural selection. The truth is I picked up a knock doing my job and following Wenger’s instructions. I always played like this and, at some point, ran out of luck.
“So while I was being treated for the injury, they went out and found a different player for my position.
“After I recovered, I was given a chance in the typical Wenger way: I was expected to run and intercept and score just the same as before. He just didn’t give me enough time to do it properly. I had no time.”
“I was offended when all of a sudden I learned from the papers that Wenger was ready to consider offers for me from other clubs. No-one had talked to me about that.
“And also I still feel a bit offended about Arsenal. They showed the door to too many people. Why did they let Thierry Henry go? When I found out about his move, I realised that the Arsenal I used to play for was finished.
“So I went to West Ham in order to play against Arsenal as often as possible.
“I wanted to prove that Freddie Ljungberg hadn’t had his last word as a player.
What is this guy on? What was Arsene expected to do? Play a weak side until Ljungberg was over his injuries? Is this the same Ljungberg who spent most of his time on the injury table at West Ham this season. Whenever he did come back into the team at Arsenal he would run towards the full back, turn back and play a backwards pass. If not he would fall over. He stopped scoring goals when Bergkamp was no longer a first team player and didn’t contribute enough.
I am not the type of fan who cannot see quality in a player just because he either has left the club or wants out as some fans have done around the internet. Flamini is not just an average player who was made to look good, and Hleb is not all of a sudden rubbish because he wants to join Barca (or so it seems) but I have always said that I do not really rate Freddie Ljungberg. It is just my opinion of course. He was a player who made good runs and had a good finish when one on one. Without Bergkamp finding his runs, Ljungberg is no better than average in my book.
Former Arsenal keeper Jens Lehmann has made a switch to Stuttgart. Good luck Jens, I hope you continue to kick people who come anywhere near you from set pieces you crazy man.
It seems like the time for the former player to speak out. Anelka has admitted his mistake in leaving our great club.
Anelka said:
“Everyone makes mistakes in life and I can say that I made one in leaving Arsenal,” said Anelka. “That is because things have gone badly for me since then. But I could not know what the future held in store for me.
“I could have spent my entire career at Arsenal. I took decisions thinking I was doing the right thing. If I had my time again I would do things differently. I made my decisions thinking they were the right ones at the time.
“My life has not gone as I imagined it would. There have been highs and lows and I have experienced things I did not want to. I have been labelled a spoiled child but why – because I chose to do what I wanted?”
Wow, you do not always hear honesty like that do you? He could have well been something special had he stayed at Arsenal. Infact I think he would have been our record goalscorer. He would have been labelled as one of the best strikers in the world and could have formed a deadly partnership with Henry. Infact I think Henry could well have stayed on the left wing for Arsenal as we had Dennis Bergkamp alongside Anelka in 1998. Interesting stuff.
I am off now, enjoy your day. Drop your view in the comments.
