Cesc Speaks, Den wants to be Cesc, Diaby to partner Cesc?

Hleb and Flamini are very good players and worked very well for us but Arsene is good enough to build another midfield, which might even be stronger than the one we had last year. My only concern will be how they start the season

Today has been all about Cesc Fabregas.

The media are likely as ever to put a negative spin on his comments made to the Spanish media.

Cesc Fabregas has always said that he would like to return to Spain one day and it is something that we as Arsenal fans should not be shocked by. Yes, we are all hoping that he will turn round and say that he loves the club so much and would like to stay for the rest of career but it is unrealistic. Arsene could go out and spend £30 million on new players and win the league and champions league but this will not stop players wanting to seek pastures new. Look at Ronaldo at Manchester United, he won the major prizes last year but that has not been enough to stop him wanting the switch to Real Madrid.

Cesc said:

“I didn’t tell Ramon Calderon no,” he said. “I told him that now wasn’t the time to go to Madrid.

“That you are wanted by Madrid, one of the biggest teams in history, is important.”

I can imagine many fans worrying about the next set of quotes.

“To be four seasons without winning any titles would be too much for me,” added Fabregas.

It would be a lot for many Gooners but what he didn’t say was ‘Four seasons without winning titles would see me depart from the club. So I shall not look into that very much unless I hear otherwise.

Brazilian Denilson is hoping to make a claim for a starting position next season. When he first came to Arsenal, fans were calling him Cesc mark 2. He looked very assured and confident on the pitch. Injuries set him back last season and we have not seen the best of the Brazilian for some time. He looked rusty in the pre season matches so far but I believe he has the ability to become a very good player.

Denilson said in The Sun:

“I have two main objectives this season: to be in Arsenal’s starting XI and get my first cap for Brazil.

“I am fully fit and ready to go. We have a good team, with a lot of quality players.

“We have the skill, but need a bit more experience in the team.

“I believe in our team and I’m sure Arsenal will be the strongest one this year and win the title.”

I think he hit the nail on the head. He needs experience, like many of our younger players who could make it with a regular run of matches.

Tomas Rosicky has had some positive things to say about the new season.

It is something similar to the last season, when everybody was writing us off,” Rosicky told deniksport.cz.

“Now, it will be the same. Some players have left but I trust the coach over this.

“He knows what he is doing. Personally, my ambitions are not smaller and I think this counts for the rest of the team.

“Definitely it was an excellent midfield and it is a pity that we have not remained together as we were attuned on the same tune.

“On the other hand, if the guys wanted to leave, it is only their decision.”

That is pretty much how I feel about the situation. Hleb and Flamini are very good players and worked very well for us but Arsene is good enough to build another midfield, which might even be stronger than the one we had last year. My only concern will be how they start the season, if they can hit the ground running then there is no reason why we can’t do well.

Speaking of which, Rosicky has hinted that Abou Diaby could well be Flamini’s replacement.

“I don’t know if the coach will bring someone in,” said Rosicky.

“I think that Diaby will be given a big chance to play often in Flamini’s position. He was playing on the left when I was injured, but he is more a centre midfielder, the same type like Patrick Vieira.

“I expect a lot from him as I know from training that it is difficult to play against him. He has long legs and really is very similar to Vieira. In my opinion, he is able to do very well.”

Although I think Diaby is too attacking to be Cesc’s partner, it is an exciting prospect to see someone with the talent of Diaby given a run in the center of midfield. We lack a player who can drive forward from the midfield and open up the opposition. Diaby is technically an excellent player and would be fantastic given a run of games alongside a holding player like Gilberto. It remains to be seen whether he could become that holding midfield player.

I am looking forward to tonight’s friendly, another chance to see what Jack Wilshere can do around other first team players. I think Wenger showed what he thinks of him by playing him in the last game. It appears that Francis Coquelin will be missing from the squad (from what I heard) which is a shame as he looked a good player. It looks like we may have to wait a little longer to see the likes of Nasri and other first teamers.

Right, I am having lunch and going to enjoy the sunshine.

Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.
