It is something that we will never really know so I think it is time to put it behind us. My view is that I was happy whatever happened to Adebayor. If we sold him for £30 million then we would have bought a new striker (probably) and maybe adapted our style a little to accommodate the new player
Good morning Gooners,
Talk about an action packed day, we have plenty to discuss.
We better start of with news of a certain striker. Emmanuel Adebayor has declared his love for the club and is set to put pen to paper on a fresh new contract which would probably include a pay rise in there somewhere.
It was all a matter of time wasn’t it? Clubs were starting to distance themselves from him and he was running out of options. It is hard to know exactly what Adebayor’s intentions were. He wanted a new improved contract we all know that, but was he willing to leave the club to gain more money? That is the question, that we probably will never know.
“When we started talking about my contract I never told him I would be leaving this club,” Adebayor said. “He’s like my father, he’s my boss, so whatever he tells me, I’ll do it.”
He may not have come out and said that, to be honest there are not many who do say that. But he hinted enough about how great Barcelona and AC Milan are. Basically we do not know if this was done purely as a way to increase his wages or if he wanted to leave for a much larger contract.
It is something that we will never really know so I think it is time to put it behind us. My view is that I was happy whatever happened to Adebayor. If we sold him for £30 million then we would have bought a new striker (probably) and maybe adapted our style a little to accommodate the new player and I would have trusted Wenger to make the right choice. As it is now, we have a striker who scored 30 goals in 48 games (a goal per 1.6 games) he gives us that strength and speed that we do not have anywhere in the squad. Bendtner is probably a better footballer than Adebayor but he cannot give the team what Adebayor can.
At the end of the day we all support Arsenal football club (if not, what you doing here!) so if you feel that you cannot let go of the whole Adebayor saga then do not sing his song, do not cheer him or applaud him but booing him is totally counter productive. It will affect his performance and your team performance which is something that we all do not want.
Arsene Wenger has attempted to deflect any negative feelings towards him by telling the fans that it was all from the media and different clubs which isn’t 100% true. Although I am sure it was mostly generated elsewhere.
I was watching Arsene Wenger’s press conference at 1.30am this morning and was quite surprised about how open he was about everything apart from the Adebayor situation.
What was interesting was when he said that he planned to partner Cesc and Diaby alongside each other but Diaby was injured and Flamini staked his place.
“Flamini was not planned to play it in [Emirates Tournament] it was Diaby who was planned to play last year, at the same period he got injured just before the Emirates, Flamini came in and played the whole season
With that and Rosicky’s comments about Diaby indicates that he may well be the chosen partner for the coming season. It is an interesting option, not sure how it would work but Diaby is a very talented player on the ball and would add many pluses to the side.
Wenger has also said that he wants another midfielder with experience. I thought he wanted that experienced player to be a defender but it seems that with Diarra, Gilberto, and Flamini all leaving he wants more cover.
“If we can do one more signing we will do it,” said Wenger. “But it will need to be quality.
“We don’t need money before we can buy, but it has to be the right person. That is very difficult at the moment.
“If we can get a midfielder who can play a tactical role we will do it. We need one more body in there.”
I suppose we will have to wait until late into the transfer window to see if anything happens.
So we face Steve McClaren’s FC Twente in the Champions League qualifier, it is a decent draw and a team we should beat over two legs but they have talent in their team so we mustn’t be complacent especially as we will still be looking for our sharpness.
I have bought my new Arsenal away kit yesterday as many of you guys have, just on my way to Arsenal to get Mean Lean with either 8, 10, 11, 12 or 14 still undecided.
Looking forward to watching the Emirates cup today, hopefully we will play some nice attacking football and win.
Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.
Until tomorrow.
