But hey, lets not dig up old dirt. Lets give him the chance to lay down some fresh soil. Who knows it may end up smelling of roses! (that was a good’n wasn’t it?)
Hurray, it is Friday! Not any ol Friday but well good football action Friday. I quite like the idea of Footballing Fridays, makes Friday that little bit extra Fridayish. Don’t quite know what Saturday would have to say about it though.
The boss has been talking about Gallas and the captaincy in the Telegraph
“He got a lot of criticism last year after what happened in the game at Birmingham,” said Wenger. “But, until then, everyone said he was a fantastic captain.
“So I think he deserves another go, to show his commitment. And then we will see where we stand at the end of the season.
“He acknowledged that he made some mistakes and he has learnt from it. He is an important player in the team and he plays in a position where it is easy to be the captain.
I am not sure how recent these comments are because I have heard the same ish (been using ish a lotish recently) comments about the captaincy a few times in recent weeks, but I have to agree. When Gallas was made captain over Gilberto it caused quite a stir, but I actually was one of the few who thought it was a good idea. Gilberto was/is a great guy, loyal and liked by everyone but was he the figure that the kids would look to when the going got tough and would pick a game up by the scruff of the neck and drag the team through? I wasn’t so sure. Gallas was mean, tough and experienced in the Premier League. He is a winner. What a masterstroke I thought. Gallas popped up with late goals against Manchester United and Wigan and the team were happy and full of confidence, all was going well for Captain Willy.
Everyone would have not batted an eye lid at his appointment at that time, but that ol saying that a captain earns his dosh when the chips are doing is very true. Captain big Willy turned into silly Billy Willy (sorry, I’ll stop that now) in an afternoon at Birmingham. Although it wasn’t the right thing to do for a professional footballer let alone an Arsenal captain, I could sort of understand his feelings as I damaged my fist against my chest of draws when McFadden struck home his penalty. It was more the response of the team afterwards, the lack of communication pointed out on Match of the day, the shouting at Clichy for giving away a penalty (which wasn’t) and then doing worse at Old Trafford.
But hey, lets not dig up old dirt. Lets give him the chance to lay down some fresh soil. Who knows it may end up smelling of roses! (that was a good’n wasn’t it?) Sorry, I am rambling now. What I am trying to say is it may well be worth giving him the chance to correct his wrongs. The truth is, I would love to see popular Cesc Fabregas as captain but he is still really young and already has more than enough expectation on his youth talented shoulders. Apart from that we do not really have any real leaders in our squad, which kind of explains our collapse for the last two years. Come on squad, grow some danglers and win this league. If you won’t do it for yourself, do it for me! Thank you.
I love this headline. WENGER HAILS ‘IDEAL PREPARATION’
Do you really have to ‘hail’ it? Can’t you just be pleased with ideal preparation?
It is an ideal opportunity to sharpen up before a very important game, and it will be ideal preparation,” said Wenger
I feel like having a tabloid day, where I speak total crap to everyone around me.
When my girlfriend asks me what I think of the breakfast she made me I will ‘slam’ the quality of food and (flicking through newspaper for examples) ‘targets’ a new meal. I ‘back’ my decision on the matter.
Mr Ooh arr (Ray Parlour) has warned Adebayor that he will have to work hard to win the hearts of you and I.
Parlour warned: “The fans have to see that he’s got the desire and wants to play in an Arsenal shirt.”
Yep, I gotta agree with you Ray. I think he will always have a love hate relationship with the fans because he works hard for the team scores goals but doesn’t look very pretty at times. Not that any Arsenal players look pretty to me but you catch my drift. I am personally happy that he will be sticking with us.
Back to footballing Friday, I am very excited about the game today, I wonder how long the first team will feature tonight. 45 minutes or 70 minutes. Probably closer to the latter.
Have a good day. Enjoy ze match, leave your view in the comments.
Back tomorrow.
