I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eboue sit in front of the back four and switch Walcott back to the right with Ramsay playing from the left
These injuries to central midfielders Diaby and Cesc remind me of a match at Highbury against Chelsea, the score finished 2-2 and we should have won the game had Henry taken it around the keeper. Vieira, Gilberto and Edu were injured or suspended and it left us with a 17 year old alongside a 19 year old against the experience of Lampard, Makelele etc
Those young midfielders were Cesc and Flamini. There was a lot of concern before the game about pairing them together and they did very well. It is obviously different this time because we do not have many leaders in the squad to help the likes of Aaron Ramsay who wasn’t even a regular in the Cardiff team last season. He now has the responsibility to help Arsenal not lose this hugely important match.
So it is likely to be a midfield of
Walcott Ramsay Denilson Eboue
Clichy Gallas Djourou Sagna
Almunia
Which shows you how what kind of state our injuries are in once again. You could field an injured midfield of..
Rosicky Cesc Diaby Nasri
Clichy Gallas Djourou Sagna
Almunia
And most would say it is a much stronger midfield, well I would hope you would think that anyway.
My problem is that the only creative player we have amongst our midfield is a very inexperienced 17 year old. How is a team of Eboue and Walcott going to keep the ball? Who is going to play around Van Persie and play first time passes into his feet and run into space for the return?
We know that our defence is currently shaky, and if we lose the ball too often then they will be tested more than Wenger would want. I still hope that Van Persie, Adebayor, Clichy and Sagna can be too much for FC Twente. I can see Walcott having a bit of a nightmare out there tonight, that is just a gut feeling nothing to do with how I rate the player, because as regular readers know I expect him to explode this season.. in a nice positive way not a messy, fatal way of course.
I hope I am wrong and he is the one player who hurts them on the break but I can see him struggling in a team without creative midfielders like Nasri, Cesc and Rosicky.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Eboue sit in front of the back four and switch Walcott back to the right with Ramsay playing from the left. It would be a little gamble from the boss but it would give us some plus points such as being stronger defensively away from home and playing Walcott on his natural right side. It would also not put as much pressure on young Ramsay. He has played there for Cardiff and could do the same tonight.
That would give our side a more natural look but is one pre season game (half, I think) enough to chance Eboue in the center of such an important game? Having said that is it more of a gamble chancing Ramsay who gave the ball away on several occasions against Sevilla. The call is Arsene’s.
So what is going on with these injuries? It is becoming a rather sick joke. The season hasn’t even started and we can almost field an 11 of injured players (yes I do like doing these line up thingys)
Diaby
Nasri Cesc Bischoff Rosicky
Traore Toure Senderos
*****
A few of those players only have minor knocks and should be back on Saturday so we shouldn’t be overly concerned as yet. Arsene has already stated that he will buy a midfielder so lets not get carried away. Arsene does not have time to fly around and speak to players, agents, clubs etc as he has to prepare his team for a hugely important game.
I do not think we will loose the game, I am still confident that we can get something from the game, Adebayor looked good against Ajax and FC Twente will have their work cut out to stop Ade man and Robin.
Have a good day. Drop your view in the comments.
Until tomorrow.
